Should be allowed to sue the government/justice system for actions of criminals prematurely released into society.
Must be nice to be a criminal. Do whatever you want and with next to no consequence.
I keep hearing about these kinds of cases and it’s making me think are the judges really this naive or do Canadian prosecutors just suck at their jobs 😭
The specificity of „criminal convictions“ here is important to note. Many, many, MANY, criminal offenses are withdrawn, or resolved other ways like peacebond (etc.) To prevent criminal convictions but still „achieve“ some sort of justice.
If sokeoen has that many criminal convictions they must have hundreds of accused convictions and God knows how many criminal convictions that have been „resolved“ in other ways.

I called the cops after I had my bike stolen when I was 16, and a cop actually came to my house, investigated the person who I suspected of stealing it, pressed charges against him, and personally delivered my bike back to my house.
When I did the exact same thing after my bike was stolen a couple summers ago, I was lucky enough to flag down a cop on the street on the way to buy it from the thief (I found it for sale on Facebook). But this time, after taking my bike back, the police had a chat with the girl who had it, pressed no charges, and let her go back to her apartment to sell more *clearly* stolen shit.
I know it’s a personal anecdote, but things have very clearly gotten worse as far as policing goes in this country.
