I went on a trip to Oze last year. We used the bus to get back to the station and were stuck in traffic for literally hours, because of the endless lines of minivans going back to the city. It was ridiculous. Have had similar experiences elsewhere like Hakone. If fuel costs force some daytrippers out of their cars, I personally won’t be crying my eyes out. Popular tourist areas need to offer more shuttle buses and restrict people’s ability to bring private cars into these areas.
