Thought this would’ve been about the US lol but it’s not. Kind of surprising as our immigration system has always seemed very lenient.

Holy hell that is a horrifying story. What a shit show and disappointment on behalf of the government. This was a situation that could easily have been remedied but instead was ramped up to a 12.

This all reads to me as a series of administrative errors.

This **does not** sound like the same immigration system that regularly admits criminals

IRCC is idiotic. Why not just email the person directly and call them directly?

>However, a letter dated Dec. 30, 2024, from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada obtained by CBC News stated the department was re-examining Nolan’s work permit due to concerns he was working in a field other than social work, which Nolan says was not the case.
…
>On Feb. 22, Nolan was arrested and handcuffed by Canada Border Services Agency and Vancouver Police Department officers outside a venue where he’d been scheduled to perform.
Tough situation but if he was performing and was paid for his performance during all this time then I guess he was working in a field other than social work? There seems to be a lot of missing information from this article.

Strange that we can’t find two million students.

This title is stupid. Talk about sensationalist headlines.
Unfortunate situation though. Its insane that the government doesnt use guaranteed mail or whatever its called.

He seems to be doing a lot of music performances under the name Dillon Daytona
He was arrested just before preforming on stage. His work visa allowed him to do social work. I doubt being a musician or anything else is covered by his visa. The administrative errors aside. He was working outside the terms of his visa.

I wish journalists would try to exercise *some* degree of skepticism when it comes to sob stories. Instead they seem to credulously accept them whenever it fits with their worldview.

Meanwhile the country is flooded with Uber drivers, but let’s deport the health worker.

One of his mistakes was posting this kind of thing on his own facebook:
>Just putting it out there, I moved to Canada from Ireland to do music and finally getting started as brand new artist.
