„Alles Hut und kein Vieh“: Kanada verfügt über große Reserven, kann aber heute nicht viel mehr Öl auf die angespannten globalen Märkte bringen

This is so true.
Did you listen to Carney say we are exporters so we don’t have to build any reserve..
Everyone knows given the option, you always have some savings and don’t live pay check to pay check.
If we can’t buy during this dip what’s the point of being an oil rich country.. liberals always reacting instead of planning..
Yeah, it would have been awesome if we hadn’t spent a decade blocking as much resource development as we could in order to have zero measurable impact on climate change and cater to NIMBYs.
They are looking at ways to ramp up the flow of oil through Transmountain, but ultimately whatever increase is achieved will be a fraction of what we could have done if we weren’t so shortsighted.
Remember when we were told there was no future market for our oil.. I wonder how steve our old environment minister is holding up hearing the opposite on the daily.
I believe we can do and achieve great things in this country. I believe we can do it on a timescale we didn’t believe possible. For me the current global situation represents an emergency and we should respond in kind.
It’s sad that Alberta wasted the many opportunities they’ve had and still have. They gave away far too much negotiating with the oil companies and didn’t build a reasonable sovereign wealth fund.
They could have created even more jobs and value by encouraging more refineries built at the oil source. Imagine how much more money could be made by sending finished products through pipelines instead of trying to get bitumen to flow through them.
They also missed a lot of industrial opportunities adding value to the petroleum products they could have refined. Plastic is the easy one but lots more opportunities exist.
With all of the resources Alberta has the province is running a deficit. Thats as bad as a casino going bankrupt.
So many opportunities have been wasted in Alberta and it’s turning into one of the largest environmental disasters on the planet.
Truly a land of riches and missed opportunities. Then Alberta has the clever strategy of blaming others for their lack of creativity and business acumen.
We will never, ever have significant ‚reserve‘ capacity to supply oil or gas in a pinch.
If we build that capacity, it will be becuase we expect it to get used in *normal* times.
We have lots of reserve, it’s just being sold to the US. That can stop at any time. They don’t need anything from us right?
It is not the fault of Canada that the world chose to source their energy from a region that has been historically unstable since the dawn of man. Remember that TMX was only run because the US stopped a pipeline to the gulf coast. What Canadian governments should be held to task for is allowing corporations to become so powerful that they are allowed to strip our resources and export them in the rarest and cheapest form possible. There is no reason previous governments should have allowed our country to not have sufficient refining, smelting, or processing capacity for our country’s needs while raw materials are shipped elsewhere.
