Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel admitted today that talks between Cuba and the US are taking place. The US has maintained a 3-month naval blockade of oil that has brought the island to its knees and desperate enough to negotiate. Curiously, the announcement video also featured Rodriguez Castro, the grandson of Raul Castro, sitting behind Diaz-Canel, despite the fact he holds no official position in the government.

Any ideas what could be offered by the Cubans here?
I’m at a loss to come up with something that isn’t Diaz-Canal essentially giving up power and opening up the country, or essentially regime change

Victory in Cuba could present the Trump admin with an off ramp if the war in Iran doesn’t work the way it was supposed to.

The pattern is clear, start the talks on the ground, bomb from the air. Not sure why they fall for it

They probably saw what happened in Venezuela and want a similar deal: that is, a promise of change in foreign policy and greater liberty, in exchange the regime is allowed to exist more or less intact.
IMO, I don’t think the US will agree to anything, after all the regime in Havana has no card: it is too small, too weak, and too close to US, and lacks die-hard supporters like those fanatics in Iran. Bombing to the point of submission could actually work. Or even a rerun of Bay of Pigs with Cuban Americans leading the charge.
Liberating Cuba has been Rubio’s wet dream since forever, so there’s no way he would agree to any deal. Also if the war in Iran ended in limbo, a victory in Cuba could serve as a distraction Trump sorely needs.
