Turns out 9 year old me was a criminal
Lmao this must be one of the funniest maps I’ve seeen recently, it’s like there were so many kids doing this in the UK that they decided to outlaw it
It’s a rite of passage in the UK, every kid must have done it when growing up. I feel sorry for the new generation as they are playing on hard mode with those video doorbells.
„What are you in for, mate?“
„Murder, you?“
„Knocking on the door and running away“
UK: Not sure it is anymore. Originally specified in the Town Police Clauses Act 1847 („wantonly disturb an inhabitant by knocking on [their] door“) but repealed in 2015 deregulation of this act – [https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015/20/schedule/23/paragraph/45#schedule-23-paragraph-45-l](https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015/20/schedule/23/paragraph/45#schedule-23-paragraph-45-l)
But.. if you’re in London, you may get charged under the Metropolitan Police Act 1839 („Every person who shall wilfully and wantonly disturb any inhabitant by pulling or ringing any door-bell or knocking at any door without lawful excuse, or who shall wilfully and unlawfully extinguish the light of any lamp“) – [https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/Vict/2-3/47/section/54](https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/Vict/2-3/47/section/54)
If I lived in the UK, they’d lock me up for life.
I live in the UK and have seen pupils do that at my school, knocking on the doors of classrooms.
The crime of impoliteness and causing mild inconvenience!
Out of curiosity, does that include package/food delivery?
Probably a case of one country having an explicit ban, while all others just use the broader harassment offence for the same thing instead.
Nicky knocky 9 doors
The World in Maps really has an unfortunate logo.
>knock on the door and run away
We used to call this „the Czech hooligan“ here in Croatia.
Haha when did they bring this law in?
My fav as a kid was finding narrow street with doors opposite and knocking both doors at once using cotton thread from a distance.. watching the neighbours stare at each other after 2 or 3 times was so funny, in the end they could hear us laughing….
Technically did not run away..
Colour coding is a bit funny though. Where it’s not a crime- red, where it is- green.
Ding Dong Ditch was fun and scary at times
Do it many times enough and its a crime in Finland.
But not for knocking, but for disturbing home peace
I think it’s considered „disturbing the peace“ in the US
Naja, wenn du die 800 Meter vom Südflügel bis zur Haustüre im Nordflügel gegangen bist und da ist dann niemand, ist schon ärgerlich.
It depends. In my country if you do it once it’s mischief but if you do it more times it’s a crime.
Here’s [a video reference for this silly law in the UK](https://youtu.be/rJGifTou5FE) from two lads who flew a kite in a public place
The most exhilarating childhood activity
Nope.
Repealed in 2015
https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015/20/schedule/23/paragraph/45
Deregulation Act 2015, Para 45(i)
A crime? Means you can have jail time?
News to me – we were never charged with anything and wasn’t that long ago I last did it- I guess if you were harassing someone with it you could get in trouble but not especially for this.
What about kicking a door? Had this happen a few months ago, they even left a muddy footprint on the door. I have not angered anyone
Knock knock.
Here come’s the Police
We did this so much as kids, I should have done 20 year stretch
Amazon is employing criminals
“I say, my dear boy, you have knocked upon my door! I must insist you now sell me on your idea, good, or service.”
Only in the UK!
