Ah yes…. they blocked the bill because of what else was in it and how DHS is being run.

  2. They put up a bunch of proposals to reopen everything else except ICE and the republicans blocked it.

REPUBLICANS failed to negotiate (the whole point of the filibuster) with Democrats to reopen DHS should be the title.

The entire department, including the cabinet seat, should be permanently shuttered.

    > The Democrats do not want to fund the Coast Guard because they’re hell-bent on defunding ICE.

What the actual fuck. The Democrats multiple times offered to fund the other agencies, but the Republicans refused. Now the Democrats are the problem. Yeah sure.

    Murc’s law in play again….

Murc’s Law is typically phrased as: „the widespread assumption that only Democrats have any agency or causal influence over American politics“. It reflects a perceived journalistic double standard, where Democrats are held responsible for political outcomes regardless of context, whereas Republican obstruction or extremism is treated as a given. This framing, critics argue, absolves Republicans of responsibility and creates an unbalanced political narrative.

FIFY: Democrats REJECT bill because Republicans won’t address the violations and problems created by DHS, ICE, CBP etc.

Put USCG under DoD or DOI, put TSA (if you think it’s worth keeping) under DOT. FEMA under DOI.

CBP and Immigration services under State.

    ICE vanishes into a vacuum.

  9. We literally don’t need Homeland Security. It’s barely existed for 25 years. Keep it shut down forever.

  10. on the one hand, this Iran war is gonna up the terrorism risk in a way not seen since the 2000s.

on the other hand, its not at all clear trump DHS is actually capable of doing anything about a major terrorism threat and is just interested in continuing to demolish the 5th amendment.

  11. Republican majority fails to pass bill to reopen Homeland Security, leaving Americans vulnerable

Good, and Democrats submitted bills to make sure workers are paid and the GOP said no.

Hope they have the guts to continue blocking it until the GOP negotiates in good faith.

  14. What are the odds of a false flag attack and the GoP blaming the dem shutdown?

Good, if ICE is already funded through 2029, why do they need more right now? These people are insane.

  16. Dems offered 3 separate bills to fund by unanimous consent the other agencies individually and each time the republicans rejected that. Republicans don’t actually care about funding these agencies unless they can sneak in pork funding for ice and other bullshit.

It’s republicans playing bs games and the media needs to start reporting that accurately

Good! At least they are growing a spine and trying to do something.
