Didn’t they know the strait was right next to Iran where it within range of missiles and drones and sea mine?

The longer the GCC countries wait before becoming involved, the weaker they make themselves look. Same goes for Europe.
Doubling down on diplomacy and appeasement after the war starts and after you are repeatedly and intentionally attacked is always a losing position. Especially when it’s in their backyard and affects them more than it does most other countries.
