Gletschersee Missoula

For those not in the know, this lake formed and reformed multiple times during the most recent ice age. When the ice dam that held the water back broke, the resulting deluge flooded all of Eastern Washington creating the Channeled Scablands there, as well as another temporary lake, eventually draining out through the Columbia River gorge to the Pacific Ocean. Much the top soil that was scoured away from WA was deposited in the Willamette river valley south of Portland Oregon, giving OR some of the best farmland in the country.
