    1. Hold on people it’s gonna be a blue wave, that’s the reddest county in Georgia.

Yeah, but the republican vote was split by multiple candidates.

The runoff election will not be a democratic win.

Not that exciting when you understand that the Republican vote was split between a lot of candidates. In the runoff, the Democratic candidate will have a hard time winning.

    4. These are the people that REELECTED MTG. About the dumbest people you can find
      .

    5. Because there were like a dozen republicans getting votes and basically 1 Dem. I get you want enthusiasm for Dems ahead of the midterms but let’s actually make claims based in reality.

This is a GOP +30 district. A district so red Dems have gone multiple cycles not even running candidates. The Dem is wildly over performing based on the primary results which means a runoff might be close than in past years but 30 point swings are wildly unlikely. If the Dems can even make this race within single digits we won’t need to worry about a blue wave we would be having a flood making the biblical story look quaint.

    6. More and more it seems that articles like this are meant to frustrate Dems and get them not to vote. The majority of people are just going to read the headline, think the Dem candidate actually has a chance (plausible, but unlikely given the fact that there were at least three Republican candidates on the ballot) and then become even more jaded about the futility of voting when the Republican candidate wins.

    7. Mods, do us all a favor and just ban absolutely horrible, misleading posts like this.

The reason a Democratic candidate came in first is because this isn’t the kind of election where the Democrats and Republicans put forward a candidate and you maybe have a couple of independents, it happened because just everything gets to be on the ballot, so the vote is split among multiple candidates. There’ll still be a run-off on April 7th and the Republican candidate is likely to win by like 20 points.

    8. We can only hope the republicans don’t have birth certificates or passport. Oh sorry Trump hasn’t passed that insane bill yet.

    9. He got about how much a Democrat gets in that district. It will not be a flip

I would hope a house cat gets more votes than a Republican in MTG’s old riding at this point…

He’s not going to win, but if you look at the voting gop vs dems it’s still quite the overperformance.

Anyone trying to spin this one as good for dems is delusional. Dems have had a lot of really encouraging results in special elections and recent primaries. The nation has moved to the left pretty dramatically. But not here. Last election the leading dem got 35%. Last night he got around 37.5. The nation may be moving away from Trump, but more threat Georgia sure as hell ain’t.

This election showed the limits of the move away from Trump that we are all praying for in the midterms. I still think the dems win the house and I’m like 40% confident they can win the senate (need to run that tx, Ohio, and maybe Alaska table) but what this Georgia special election showed that there are parts of this country that are simply unreachable. This race will end up roughly 60-40 and that’s pretty par to the course in this area of the country.

He hasn’t won yet. This is like saying he’s beating the other guy in the polls. Doesn’t matter until votes are counted on Election Day

    14. I think the point here is not to stoke false hope that he can win, but just that Trump’s endorsement appears to matter less and less right now, which is a good thing.

I swear dems are addicted to reporting on how they lost just a little bet less than last time.

He’s got the majority of the votes in a 3 way race because the republicans are split in half. The republicans are just trying to decide what flavor of fascism they want.
