Let me reassure you all : We do not give a shit.

  2. A defeat saturday in the 6 Nations tournament and the humiliation will be total.

Rest assured the armoured might of Boaty McBoatface is steaming into the region as we speak!

  4. I don’t think we even have 12 ships to deploy unless if we send tugs with some blokes armed with RPGs. The RN has been stripped for years and we are in the midst of a frigate crisis.

The only silver lining is that we are ramping up production of our new frigates as we aren’t suffering from the same problems that the Americans and Germans have been dealing with (Constellation and F126)

Brexit has damaged UK more than I ever thought. It was the biggest mistake in recent history.

  6. Is that really an embarassment? The US and Israel started war with no clear plan of what they are even trying to do, let them handle the mess they made.

  7. I struggle to explain the difference in results when you consider that both the french and the british navy have been under the same financial pressure for the last twenty years and both countries have similar GDP and military experience.

I have read a military expert that recent british ships, though excellent on paper like the type 45 or the new aircraft carriers, are maintenace queens and that the british yards are overwhelmed by their maintenance at the same time where a lot of work have been piling up for both their attack ane strategic submarines.

The same issue has been plaguing the german navy by the way though things have been improving a bit compared to the 2010s where they had periods where no submarines at all were operational.

But how did the French manage to espace the same trap ? Or are we just under the illusion we are escaping it and it lies ahead with our future aircraft carrier and strategic submarines ?

As a french myself, i would love to believe that we are so much smarter than other countries when it comes to shipbuildings but both germany and the british have had historically very good shipbuilding companies so i think it is unlikely.

Also, can someone here please inform me about the state of the italian navy ? I didn’t hear much about it so in the context of disaster stories coming from the UK, am i correct that they are doing OK ? I know they build very good ships too.

  8. Wow this is extremely navel gazing and self-important. I’m far more focused on feeling glad my country has refused the orangutans call to arms. Who cares what equipment the UK has

  9. I hate this, wtf is the British press doing to you Brits?

The escalation was totally unexpected. The uk sent F-35s and typhoons, deployed 400 extra personnel and wildcat helicopters with counter drone missiles. Plus Cyprus has 2 bases anyway.

Without the UK our European military wouldn’t be as strong and we are grateful. My country just takes every opportunity to show off lol – but if it was the real deal and not a pointless war nobody understands I can guarantee the British military would be front and centre with us and throwing everything it’s got.

I wonder what the play is here? Political? Or navy trying to hammer the govt for some more money?

Either way proud to work with you all, we even have a combined military force https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combined_Joint_Expeditionary_Force

  10. Were seeing some last gasps of an already dead empire. And they did it themselves. France isn’t far behind if they won’t fix their debt issues though.

Cool. Yet another propaganda piece to trash the UK on this sub. May as well this place Russia Today.

  12. You ever notice it’s the former heads of these branches only sounding the alarms once they are out the blast radius?

  13. The dire state of the british navy is very bad news when it comes to european security in the case of the USA ignoring its NATO duties in case of a russian agression.

I think the combination of greek and itilian navy would secure the Mediterranean sea but on the much bigger atlantic ocean which is the main pathway for the numerous russian submarines, we only have the french, UK and perhaps spanish navy to hunt submarines as i woudl expect the nordic, german ane dutch navies to be very busy in the baltic and north seas.

Without the UK contribution, that is a lot of ocean to cover with few french and spanish ships.

And i am only talking about the europe vicinity, we would have no ships left for any action in the red sea or indian ocean in case russian nuclear submarines start to hunt there too

We really need the british navy to get better for our own collective security.

What exactly does Macron plan to do with these warships other than provide photo opportunities for him to boost his international profile before the French boot him out?

The UK has an airstrip in Cyprus, what possible reason could there be to send an aircraft carrier there? The Royal Navy is indeed in a terrible state and urgently needs fixing, but to protect us from Russia not for the purpose of sending vanity fleets to the middle east.

  15. Vonplinkplonk on

Isn’t just because the UK has its own carrier group deployed to the North Atlantic to watch Greenland for threats?

  16. Ok_Sprinkles_8968 on

The availability rate of the MN ships is quite impressively high, they’re doing a good job optimizing what they have. Hope the Royal Navy will solve its maintenance problem though, Europe needs it. It will require the right persons to be held responsible though, not the ones that are in power afterwards and that need to deal with the mess.

  17. Was that one of „we do need to help the EU“ moments we heard about the past few months?

  18. frozen_pope on

I’m sorry but do any of the French navy ships HAVE A FUCKING DRAGON ON THEM?

  19. Obviously-Lies on

The embarrassment will be if we actually get involved in this stupid war.

  20. Jakethepeggie on

Why would you deploy there in the first place? To protect some oligarchs?

  21. UK Navy is in shambles… They can’t maintain or man their high tech kit.

  22. Right wing paper owned by Russian oligarch and former KGB who was close with former tory PM.
Yeah, I’ll take this with a grain of salt.
Guessing its some plea for money in military.

  23. peanutbutter4all on

Good. The UK taxpayer should spend zero on this war started by the US and israel.

  24. French citizen here, I absolutely loathe how the french government is not taking a clear stance and sending ships without saying what they intend to use them for. IMHO all EU countries should sever their ties with USA and let them crawl in the mess they created.

„Oil solidarity“, that’s all what it’s about, terribly shameful.

  25. Not a naval power anymore, exited a huge economical and cooperation block, economy is down the drain, etc. What happened to the once mighty United Kingdom?

  26. Its embarrassing that this is the state of our navy. We are an ISLAND nation and we cant even get one ship underway.

I dont care what privileged pacifists say, we need more spent on our defence budget, and a massive audit on where the current money is going. We are not in peaceful times and no amount of sing songing outside of parliament is going to fix that, so we might as well go all in.

  27. Nero_Darkstar on

And yet the one being deployed by the UK is a type 45 – best missile defence cruiser in the world. They have to deloy more ships to match the capabilities.
