The Hungarian government adopted a resolution on the evening of Monday 9 March, already signed by Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán, ordering the seizure of currency and valuables from Oschadbank cash-in-transit vehicles, attempting to create a legal basis for its actions.

**Source**: European Pravda, citing a copy of the Hungarian government’s resolution

**Details**: The resolution directly stated that it concerned the episode involving the attack by a Hungarian special service on a Ukrainian cash-in-transit convoy.

The document is titled „On necessary measures in connection with the unusually large amount of cash and gold bars transported through Hungary in order to protect the national security interests of the state“.

In the resolution, Orbán’s government stated that €35 million and US$40 million in cash had been seized from Oschadbank vehicles, as well as nine gold bars weighing one kilogram each.

The government also argued that the purpose and intended use of the unusually large amount of cash and gold, as well as the legal grounds for transporting them through Hungary, had not been clarified during the inspection and that the transport had not been carried out in accordance with normal international practice.

Ukrainian authorities and European bankers have publicly refuted this claim by the Hungarian government, explaining that after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, ground transportation of cash became the only possible option for Ukraine and therefore such transfers take place regularly and are not unusual.

However, Orbán’s government said in its decision that the method of transporting the assets and the individuals carrying out the transport had created risks to national security, and it referred to cash transfers by Ukrainian banks over the previous four years as an argument supposedly reinforcing threats to Hungary.

Without presenting any arguments to support these claims, the government ordered that the **seized assets be considered confiscated and handled accordingly** during the investigation by the National Tax and Customs Administration, which would take place within 60 days after the resolution entered into forc

      Thugs and thieves.

    2. It is neither „seized“ nor“confiscated“. It is stolen. Orbán, in his function as the elected leader of Hungary, just established his country as a country of thieves, stealing from people that are victims of the military of an aggressive dictator.

So Hungary is against confiscating Russians assets, but Ukrainian are fine.

      What a bunch of hypocrites

This is state sanctioned robbery. In normal circumstances Hungary should be internationally isolated for that, but I suspect, this is what Orbán is counting on. He is afraid and need to reinforce the siege mentality effect.

Let’s hope Hungarians won’t fall for that. Magyar FTW!

    5. Isn’t that up to a court rather than the government ?

But honestly, given the openly hostile behaviour of Hungary, why aren’t those rerouted through other countries ?

I guess UA can start taking over Hungry land, you know… national security bs and such ….plane robbery from HU side… money transport is a daily occurrence, just little hungry hungry Hungarians could not leave it alone returning to good old times robbing everybody around them…

    7. Will the EU respond to this act of international robbery?
Or as usual – press Ukraine to repair the pipeline and bow to the fatman?

      Despicable

The opposing candidate is gonna vow to never return the money in hopes of appeasing undecided voters, isn’t he?

Crazy to think that people assume one election will fix this mess.

I must be missing something here. It is really just small change, ate the government level it’s barely worth the time.

So, can a Hungarian please help to understand?

Is orban playing the security card? Big money transfers are unsafe and might make people at risk for highway robbers, or something?

Does Orban want protection money? Kickbacks? Revenge for the gas pipeline failures?

Saying Orban is „fucking with ukraine“ seems like a silly argument.

Can’t EU do anything about this Putin’s asset? WTF is going on with EU?

    11. Its stolen money. And remember folks the hungarian goverment is not equal to the hungarian people. Hopefully these fuckers will be removed at april 12.

In the meantime, I don’t see the EU doing anything. It should be grounds for removal from the EU. Vote Ukraine into the EU.

I wonder why Hague tribunal don’t have anything to say about this.

Send in some UA „bankrobbers“ to take back the gold and money and in the same time do a Trump and kidnap Orban and put him on the frontline? Or is that bad?

    15. Thecatstoppedateboli on

Simple: block any payment of EU funds to Hungary and confiscate anything related to Hungary in Ukraine

    16. Sad_Professional5351 on

This scum is Putin’s servant, I think that if he stays in power Hungary should be removed from the EU and NATO, Orban is a disgrace

    17. So the resolution was passed to justify Hungary stealing assets being transported through the country after the fact? Thugs and thieves, indeed.

Ukraine has been fearmongering and robbing us for 4 years now, this is but a drop in the ocean.

    19. If Magyar wins I would expect that money to go missing for a while, not because the oppositon is corrupt but because I suspect if Orban loses and his driven out they’re going to flee the country out of fear of being jailed for all the corruption and theft they pulled over the last decade and that money will be robbed for their escape funds.

    20. Ok_Dust_8620 on

Was there any evidence provided to the public that would prove that the money belongs to the „war mafia“ (no idea what that means, but whatever)? And where is Brussels? Is it OK for an EU member to steal money like that?

    21. Stealing from a country which has been torn apart by an aggressor the lowest you can get.
Equivalent to the guys kicking unconscious people on the floor.
