      >In 2024-25, a record 55,318 overall examinations were conducted, up 17 per cent from the year prior (47,047) and 32 per cent from 2022-23 (41,767).

      >**Flash drives, smartwatches and even a phone’s SIM card** joined the list of devices that can be reviewed by CBP officers under an updated directive from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that took effect on Jan. 1.

      >The previous directive, established in 2018, already applied to “searching, reviewing, retaining and sharing information contained in **computers, tablets, removable media, disks, drives, tapes, mobile phones, cameras, music and other media players, and any other communication, electronic or digital devices** subject to inbound and outbound border searches.”

      >Also new to the CBP checklist are **GPS systems, vehicle infotainment systems and unmanned aircraft systems**, such as drones and model planes.

Yet the USA paints China as a Big Brother country like they themselves aren’t one.

I find that funny because if they see anything negative about Trump… You are turned around and hopefully not detained by ICE. I don’t think an American would be stopped at the border and asked to see if they liked Carney or not…”oh!!! You don’t like Carney??? Then off to Alberta with you!!”
I think the US is paying a childish game here!!

    4. Just a reminder this isn’t for security reasons it’s so they can check if you’ve ever said something bad about Sweet Potato Hitler so they can refuse to let you into the country because of that.

I’ll be travelling to the US for business next month and I’m curious about experiences with CBP. While I’m not particularly jumping at the chance, it’s good for my career in that I’ll be receiving training in a product that our company purchased (European vendor, US office/training centre).

I’m curious to know what your recent experience has been, especially when going through CBP pre-clearance at an airport.

Are Canadians being fingerprinted/photographed by CBP?

Is CBP regularly or randomly searching phones and laptops or downloading their contents?

Does using the MPC app going through CBP checkpoint make the process easier/faster or helps to avoid the above?

Should I bring a „burner“ phone with minimal apps installed and leave my laptop at home? I have a meeting scheduled with our IT department to better understand company policy from a laptop security point of view.

      FWIW I don’t have Nexus.

One of the things they are looking for is social media criticism of Donald Trump.

The most scrutiny I’ve ever gotten crossing the border is from CBSA agents. It’s always smooth going to the USA.

What happens if you just turn off your iPhone at the border? Do they make you turn it on to search it?

    9. Didn’t they ban some guy from entering because he had saved a fat JD Vance meme?

Trump worries that people hate him? Must have a lot of sleepless nights then, likely since childhood. Give us a few more reasons not to come to your police state. So the (fake but satisfying) video on my phone of Zelensky punching Captain Stupid in the face is a problem?

Operation epic fury , or OEF , or is it operation OEF operation Epstein files , dont try to cross the American border if you question his naming of his mission.

Jokes on them I’m not going to the USA.

Not until they get rid of their domestic and international terrorism issue they have.

    13. Please… Give me more reasons why I should never visit the U.S. again. The previous 1000 reasons didn’t quite do it for me… /s

Please continue to boycott the USA by not visiting. Its really not that hard to not go.

    15. Sounds like people need to start walking around with flash drives of their gaping buttholes

I’m sorry but your policies doesn’t infringe on my privacy

    16. If you must travel to the US for work do not take your regular cell phone and laptop with you! At work we have given our employees who must go down there with wiped temp phones and laptops.

    17. VoightofReason on

Yeah. Even if I was going to the States, I’m not letting GI Jane search my devices. That’s comical

    18. Go to hell. You want tourists? Not happening here. How about you try being inviting instead of rejecting.
