      This article timing is amazing. The straight of Hormuz is closed and 20% of the world’s oil is trapped. The result is economic panic.

      Then this article: Don’t focus on oil.

      The writer doesn’t understand irony.

      In the world’s second largest country (land mass) with some of the coldest temperatures in the world….

      I’ll stick with my gasoline and Diesel, thanks.

      Is this not the reason we’re building new nuclear power plants and figuring out SMRs?

      Exploding electricity demand means hydro can’t keep up and wind/solar are constrained by batteries. What’s the magic bullet.

      If only people weren’t so terrified of nuclear power. It’s our best chance at abandoning fossil fuels.

      From a policy point of view. Do we have to choose ? 

      If our government makes it easy for people to invest in clean energy and fossil fuels the market will determine where the money goes.  

      A lot of the fossil fuels people think it’s to hard to make investments in that sector despite demand signals.  

      Similarly, many of the regulations that constrain fossil fuels also constrain clean resource development like critical minerals mines , hydro power development etc.  

      If global fossil fuels consumption is on the decline then investment will logically dry up

      Its defs fossil fuels to some extent, also electricity doesnt pay well. We cant ship it around the world like we do with oil

      For those considering an EV, consider that seven gallons of fossil fuels go into the manufacture of _one_ tire, regardless of what energy is driving that car.

      Without enough GW’s from nuclear for baseload, these conversations are meaningless.

      Ultimately if Canada was actually serious about divesting from O&G as a domestic energy source, it would expedite a nuclear fleet at maximum speed.

      But it isn’t actually serious, so it won’t.

      More importantly, hydrocarbons are critical for a lot more than just grid power or transportation, and are not fully replacable, for many decades.

      Disliking this fact does not make it less true.

      Last, our ideologically-captured media in Canada is incapable of understanding how our economy actually functions, because their funding depends on them not understanding it.

      Electric comes with its own issues, the batteries are hard to dispose and require a lot of minerals to be mined.

      Magnets are actually the future. Magnetic rail is already a thing and maybe magnetic vehicles next.

      Honestly as an industrial gas technician, I can’t imagine anything other than hydrogen replacing industrial manufacturing heat sources.

      This need is not going away, to make this much heat that’s required you would need power cables 12”. We priced out 20MBTU boiler and it needed 20 million dollar just to get the power to the boiler.

      How are you gonna have enough chicken nuggets without natural gas?

      Really happy I went full electric vehicle this time instead of finally moving for to hybrid to buy electric as my next vehicle.

      I have no idea where the prices will go, but I love how much mine now costs to ‚fill‘. I’m hoping my next car will be able to charge within 10 minutes like some of the up coming lines will have. I wouldn’t need it often but long road trips don’t see desirable in my car.

      I’m hoping a company makes Ev mini stops that have shops and washrooms or a place to hang out for a few minutes as it charges. It sucks if you don’t know the area and you get to a charger and your kid needs to go to the washroom so you gotta double back 😂
