If he was observing that movies could struggle the way many opera and ballet companies are (Met Opera in NYC so desperate they made a deal with the Saudi Govt) because their audiences are shrinking, he’s not wrong.

Two things can be true at the same time. He is not factually wrong in what he says, but he also comes off as arrogant, vapid, and pretentious, and he has picked a fight that he was probably better off just avoiding entirely.
It doesn’t cost anything to say nothing at all.

Indeed, very few people go to the opera or ballet. I’m not really into the opera, but I have gone out of my way to see a handful of contemporary dance and ballet performances over the past decade, which probably puts me in the 99.9th percentile attendance ratio for a man in his 40s choosing to see these performances on his own.
Slammed by people who have never once gone themselves no doubt.
