Ok the headline makes it seem like they are keeping them hostages lol

But they mentioned that people who were about to checkout should be allowed to extend their stay

  2. It feels strange that they are using an image for illustrative purposes for this news and not actual photos or just give the news without any images considering the situation right now.

This is simply not the full truth, and is PR. Guests cannot be evicted, but they will be charged for their accommodation. The official message from the DET to hotels is to charge the guest their existing rate, and to not increase the rate, but they are not covering accommodation if the guest cannot pay.

I was staying at a hotel, and after two days wasted going to the DET office personally, speaking to them by phone over a dozen times, and going to my hotel reception a dozen times, I had to vacate for cheap accommodation. I met many others in the same position.

This is just PR. Abu Dhabi did it right, and Dubai is just piggy backing on the news. Dubai is not covering the accommodation because the hotels already have your card on file, and will charge it.

Multiple people from the DET told me and others that they are not covering accommodation.

You’re free to check in whenever you like, but you can’t ever check out.

Seen this circulated, friend stuck on layover since 28th hasn’t had any luck getting it acknoweldged by their hotel.

Dubai will do anything to look relevant, living off borrowed glamour and other people’s wealth. It’s the tramp stamp of the modern world – flashy, superficial and desperate to be noticed.
