If the goal of DOGE was to reduce spending and rationalize government services (in itself not an outrageous goal), then it was a massive failure in execution and in its macro-level approach. In its execution, pursuing this cost-cutting by way of a government-wide campaign of harassment and intimidation, without explaining clearly (or at all) a strategic goal to the cuts and often needing to desperately re-hire some of the same people, only creates more uncertainty and kills the morale productivity of the government employees that you DO keep. On a high level, this cost savings project was like cutting off your own leg and an arm because you want to lose weight. Sure you’ll weigh less but you aren’t able to do much afterwards. Cutting and disorganizing the government to the point that what’s left can’t function efficiently is worse than leaving in some bloat. And then concurrent to this the BBB only increased the debt and the budget deficit by many times more than whatever sum DOGE claimed to have saved. So it was all for naught.

But of course, the goal of DOGE was not actually to reduce spending and rationalize government services. It’s goal was twofold: First, to steal and centralize all the data that the government has on everyone in this country, for the obvious purpose of abetting a regime of surveillance and political control. Second, to punish and dominate public sector employees in general (Elon compared them to Nazis) because they are, in large part but not exclusively, educated liberal professionals, and the government must be purged of everyone except based nationalists.
