Legal weed is probably helping with the reduction. Honestly getting high is just more cost efficient than getting drunk. Thanks Trudeau!

    2. Blame fitness watches. I want to drink, but it messes up my sleep score and hrv.

I said this in a comment on a thread the other day, but…isn’t this working as intended? Wasn’t that the purpose of all of these sin taxes people seem to love so much?

    4. It’s almost as if the cost of basic necessities has gone up so much that people are cutting back on extras they don’t need

I wonder how many are addicted to their social media accounts and possibly an AI account and sitting in their basement?

LCBO needs to stop panhandling for charities at the register. It’s very annoying.

Challenge accepted rest of Canada. I’m pretty sure I can single handedly get things back to normal.

    8. Overall a good thing since most of that is probably due to less alcoholism but at the same time a portion of that drop must also be from people simply having less money to go out to bars, restaurants etc. There is research that suggests casual drinkers are less likely to be depressed than people who never drink probably because casual drinkers have both the social group and finances to regularly go out and be around people. Casual drinking is ultimately a healthy thing.

    9. In comparison to the 2020-2021 levels, sure.

      2022-2023 sales, 26.3 billion. 2024-2025 sales 25.8 billion.
Oh shit, global pandemic, yeah, we’re gonna drink. Downward trend because a market outlier level isn’t the same as people are going sober. Combine it with Gen Z having a rough start in the job market and yeah, numbers are down ~2%.

Betting the cluster fuck in the middle east right now is gonna drive sales back up.

It literally one of the leading causes for cancer. Drinking poison.

    11. “Sales of alcoholic beverages fell 1.6 per cent to $25.8 billion in the 2024-2025 fiscal year, despite a 1.6 per cent increase in prices during that same period.”

Hangovers hit harder than they used too. Plus everything is expensive, booze is a way lower priority for me these days

20 years ago my wife and would have probably had a couple drinks on a weekend afternoon in, glass of wine or two making and eating dinnner then a movie on the couch. Today it’s going to be a joint and bowl of ice cream watching a movie

Costs like 15$ for a beer in a restaurant in Toronto. Price gouging and cost of living is through the roof.. No wonder

Make weed super cheap and tax the hell out of booze then wonder why less people are drinking
      .

      .. just plain dumb

    16. Let’s pump that number to lowest sales in 50 years!

The younger adults (18-25) don’t want it and can’t afford it, they don’t party like we used to.

The adults feel like crap from it, and are busy spending 90% of what we make on mortgages (if you’re lucky enough to own), taxes and food.

      Bye Felicia!
