Stats Canada releases documentation showing for every 1 job opening in Canada we have 3 unemployed Canadians, youth unemployment across the country is above 12% and is much higher than that in certain cities (around 20% in Toronto), the Liberals run on cutting immigration numbers because of massive backlash directed at Trudeau because of ridiculous immigration policy that completely throws Canadians under the bus in favour of Tim Hortons franchises.

This is the move Carney is going to make… He’s going to „reduce“ temporary immigration by giving them all permanent residence status. This is the pilot, with almost 4 million temporary residence set to have their status expire at the end of this year and next, do you think realistically they are going to leave or can we agree a lot of them are suddenly going to get handed PR.

    2. Ya, cause unemployment isn’t high enough. So they have to do the opposite of what would fix the problem cause that’s all the liberals have done for the last 11 years.

      >>The Government will also accelerate the transition of up to 33,000 temporary workers to permanent residency in 2026 and 2027. This initiative will target workers who have established strong roots in their communities, are paying taxes and are helping to build the strong economy Canada needs.

So combined with the 115K in 2026 and 2027, Carney’s **real** PR targets for this year are much closer to 500K.

Well, can’t say I’m shocked. LPC continues to be the party of mass immigration. Emboldened by his rising popularity, I imagine Carney will find more ways to press the gas on the amount of people coming in again.

    4. I get folk are upset about this but this was announced in the budget of Nov 2025 and the 33K are from 26-27 and are from the existing pool of workers. The Star is paywalled any reason given why they bring this up 4 months later? I’m sure this will enrage the readers of the more right of centre „press“ all weekend.
