Might makes right. Always did and always will. What is often referred as the rules-based world order wasn’t exactly a world order, but a set of game rules imposed by the hegemon within its sphere of immediate control. The countries and regions that never got into it (due to being too strong to be subdued or too irrelevant to be considered) never even experienced this rules-based world order in the first place. And now, that the fading hegemon grew tired of this spectacle, the world, which was under its heel, returns to the way it had always been.
