  1. Thanks for sharing this! Here’s a bit from the article:

Nintendo of America is suing the US government over President Trump’s tariffs and is demanding a “prompt refund, with interest” of any duties that it has paid, according to a complaint filed in the US Court of International Trade, as reported previously by Aftermath.

The Supreme Court ruled last month that Trump’s use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to levy “reciprocal” tariffs was illegal, without specifying how any refunds might work.

If someone had told me one of the first businesses to legally fight back against the tariffs was going to be Nintendo, I wouldn’t have believed you.

    Way to go, Nintendo!

Here is the thing Trump had the right to block foreign products here. We do it with a lot of Chinese electronics and cars. So there is a possibility that he just bans Nintendo products here. This was a bold move from Nintendo with how reactionary the man is

To be honest….I’m pretty okay with this. As litigiously happy as Nintendo is they usually aren’t frivolous when it comes to them either.

Nintendo could punch me in the face and I’d say ‘thank u Nintendo’

Nintendo got a room full of lawyers that will sue anyone that plays with their financials. So this tracks.

  7. The good/bad thing about Nintendo is they don’t discriminate about who they sue. They want their money whether you’re the president or whether you’re little Timmy with a Mario themed birthday, Nintendo wins.

  8. Did Nintendo pay for the tariffs, or pass it onto consumers and distributors?

Nintendo should receive payment of it’s the former, not the latter.

And it is the latter, it’s insanely complicated to fertile who should get what.

But Trump knew this and a big reason why he did it anyway.

They are S.O.L. if they think they are seeing a penny of that money.

This admin does what it wants, when it wants, how it wants. If anything expect a tantrum akin to “barring business with Japan” if anything if I had to wager.

  10. You would have thought, collectively, that we would have known better. Pumpkin Spice Stalin will leave his mark for generations to come.

  11. Can’t wait for the government to spend billions of my tax dollars on these completely avoidable lawsuits that will surely start popping up. Just to be clear I hope these companies sue the fuck out of the government, dollars are the only thing they’re loyal to and the only way to hold them accountable because of that.

Did not sue them for using a Pokémon theme song on an ice video though?

  13. Do you know how awful you have to be to make Nintendo’s lawyers the good guys?

  14. seasonmaster on

The only thing that surprises me about this is that they waited until now instead of when ICE used “Gotta catch ‘em all!” in reference to their abduction practices. Nintendo is infamous for the lengths they go to in order to protect their perceived image (to the point of being counterproductive), but apparently they’re fine with having one of their “beloved” cash cow franchises associated with kidnapping.

Now let’s see Trump secretly threaten Japan with a nuke and watch Nintendo bow out.

I’m convinced the reason no one, no company, no country and no agency is acting against him because he has some leverage that he doesn’t share with the world. Something he threaten the world with behind closed doors to those who have more sway.

The guy is a disgusting piece of sh’t but also exactly the type of person to have a dead man’s switch

You can call the idea insane and normally I’d agree but haven’t we said that about almost about everything that has happened so far?

So, if they win that money back, are they then going to turn around and pay it out to every American who absorbed that cost in the first place?

  17. DianneNettix on

I think the only thing worse is pissing of Disney’s lawyers. The DOJ is completely outclassed here and if they were competent they’d know it. But they aren’t so it’ll be interesting to see how this goes.

I’m sure that money was stolen a long time ago so if they ever do get paid back it will be out of the taxpayers pocket

  19. It would be funny if *Nintendo* were the ones who finally took Trump down, because Don Jr. downloaded some ROMs back in like 1998.
