>IDF: Initial report – the IDF precisely targeted a senior Iranian terror regime commander in Tehran. Details to follow.

So a few thoughts as random civilian in the US:
1. Our president did not think this through. He did this on the good vibes he got from the Venezeula operation.
2. Rumors indicate that most of the administration was against this in private but again, only one guy had the decision making capability.
3. Unlike other matters, Trump cannot simply „walk out of this one“ when it starts going sideways. He can, but at the expense of perpetually high energy prices for Americans and extremely frayed relationships with his most favorite foreign countries (e.g. Israel and the Gulf nations). Those guys have treated him the best and he generally likes these people. But the guy walks away from so-called friends all the time and leaves them under the bus, so who knows.
4. Instead of sending in ground troops first, I suspect he may start looking at WWII history and thinking that a nuke or nuclear blackmail may get the Iranians to surrender. But the Iranians are guided by a rigid interpretation of Islam, they’d rather get their martyrdom than surrender.
5. This is a complete clusterfuck, I am very sorry this idiot country I live in even elected this man as President (again). I didn’t vote for him but you guys in the rest of the world are justified in hating the US right now.
Thanks to the brain-dead Americans that voted for Trump, enabling this to happen, can you compensate us Europeans who will end up with higher bills as a result?
>Iran remains largely offline nearly a week after the joint U.S.-Israeli attack on the country, internet monitoring NetBlocks said.
>“Metrics show Iran remains in digital darkness after six full days under an internet blackout, with 1% connectivity at the 144 hour mark,” the group said in a post on X.

US loosens oil restrictions on Russia to tame oil price rise caused by its Iran war, while Russia is helping Iran target US forces.
>German Chancellor Merz on Iran:
>We are urging strongly that Iran’s statehood be preserved.
>We do not want to see a Syrian scenario here, but rather we want this state to become functional from within itself.
>And that is why I also appeal, both in Washington and in all talks with the Israeli government, to create the conditions as quickly as possible for this country to be stabilized, for it to get a democratically legitimized government, and for it to be able to continue to exist as a state.
>It is a country with over 90 million inhabitants, and we naturally also have a high self-interest in this in order to avoid new refugee flows from the region.

> IDF: In the heart of Tehran: The IDF dismantled Ali Khamenei’s underground military bunker beneath the Iranian terror regime’s leadership compound
>
> **A short while ago, approximately 50 Israeli Air Force fighter jets guided by precise IDF intelligence struck Ali Khamenei’s underground bunker in Tehran.**
>
> The underground military bunker, which was located beneath the regime’s leadership compound in the center of Tehran, was intended to be used by the Supreme Leader of the Iranian regime as a secure emergency command center. Khamenei was eliminated before he could use the bunker during operation “Roaring Lion” but the compound continued to be used by senior Iranian regime officials.
>
> The underground compound was created by the regime as a base for advancing military activities and its extremist ideologies against the State of Israel and the Western world.
>
> It spanned multiple streets in the heart of Tehran and contained numerous entrances and meeting rooms for senior members of the Iranian terrorist regime.
>
> The bunker was struck following a lengthy process of intelligence collection and research conducted by the IDF’s Intelligence Directorate.
>
> The bunker was one of the Iranian leadership’s most important military command centers. Targeting the bunker further degrades the regime’s command and control capabilities.

Qatar’s energy minister has said the conflict in the Middle East could „bring down the economies of the world“, the Financial Times reports.
Saad al-Kaabi estimated that even if the war ended today, it would take „weeks to months“ for the country to return to normal gas deliveries, following the Iranian bombing of the Ras Laffan plant.
Al-Kaabi added that if the war continues for a few weeks, GDP growth across the world will be impacted.
He told the FT: „Everybody’s energy price is going to go higher. There will be shortages of some products, and there will be a chain reaction of factories that cannot supply.“
Al-Kaabi is chiefly worried about his own country’s economy of course, despite his warnings of international pain.
Asian countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh and India are more reliant on Qatar’s gas than European countries, which face less risk of shortages, according to Euronews.
But there will undoubtedly be global ramifications.
Al-Kaabi said Asian buyers would be forced to bid against the Europeans for the gas that is still available, for example. – Sky News
How does a ground invasion even work against mass fiber optic quadcopter drones never mind the shaheds.

> „A third party source has reported a tug being hit by unknown projectiles in the Straits of Hormuz,“ it says.

I guess what I don’t get is why the US thinks this operation could take a month. Do they think they will need time for intelligence gathering to continue to hit leadership and take out weapons platforms? I suppose the large and mountainous terrain makes it easy to hide weapons and people and you can’t just leave if they’re still attacking oil infrastructure.
I’m starting to think this will be over soonish. Maybe 2 more weeks?
„The U.S. was targeting a section of Iran where a school was struck, officials told Congress“
https://www.nbcnews.com/world/iran/live-blog/live-updates-iran-war-israel-strikes-tehran-beirut-trump-leader-rcna262018
> Trump administration officials told lawmakers in closed-door briefings this week that the United States was targeting the area in Iran where an elementary school was struck and scores of children were killed, two U.S. officials told NBC News.
> The U.S. knows the strike on the school was not by the Israelis, Trump administration officials told lawmakers, according to the two U.S. officials.
> The administration officials acknowledged to lawmakers that the U.S. was operating in that section of Iran and did not offer a likely alternative theory to the idea that the strike could have been the U.S., the two U.S. officials said.
> At least 168 people were killed at the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in the southern Iranian town of Minab, according to Iranian authorities, though some Iranian officials have said publicly the death toll could be higher.
> U.S. Central Command has said the investigation into the strike is ongoing. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Wednesday that the U.S. was still “investigating,” adding: “Of course, we never target civilians, but we’re taking a look at investigating that.”
> Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters Monday that U.S. forces “would not deliberately target a school.”
> Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Nadav Shoshani told NPR on Monday that the Israeli military was “not aware at the moment of any IDF operation in that area.”
> Asked for updates Friday, the IDF declined to comment to NBC News.
> Speaking in an exclusive interview Thursday with NBC News’ Tom Llamas, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said it was “clear that the missiles were — that the school was hit by Americans,” though he did not share any evidence for the allegation.
> Asked to address whether there was any chance a “wayward Iranian missile” could have played any role, Araghchi said “no.”
Seriously? This guy hasn’t even gone a week in the middle of this Middle East bleepstorm and he’s already ready to start another?
**“President Donald Trump told CNN Friday morning that Cuba “is going to fall pretty soon.”**
**“Cuba is gonna fall pretty soon, by the way, unrelated, but Cuba is gonna fall too. They want to make a deal so badly,” he told CNN’s Dana Bash in a phone interview when touting US military success in his second term.“**
Russia, needed the price of oil to rise, also needed to become a larger exporter of energy. Do you think Russia is behind Trumps new war that is such a convenient s for Putin.
Given how much he wants to get an easy win from this there is a non-zero chance that Trump may nuke Iran. Not very high but it’s crazy that it’s not zero.
Can I ask as someone not familiar with these things, what kind of escalations specific this conflict would/could make ww3 very likely?
> **Bangladesh rations fuel as Middle East conflict spur panic buying**
>
> Bangladesh imposed daily limits on fuel sales after panic buying and stockpiling raised concerns about supply as the war in the Middle East roiled global energy markets.
>
> The measures follow US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran – and retaliatory strikes by Tehran across the Middle East – which have disrupted oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a key energy route, and sent energy prices soaring.
>
> Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation, the state-run importer and distributor, said the curbs aim to restrain excessive demand, calm the public and keep nationwide stocks stable.
>
> „Fuel oil is essential for the country’s development, but about 95 percent of it must be imported,“ it said, adding that global instability had occasionally delayed shipments.
