Please emphasize in the graph headline that this tracks an estimated us direct spending
Do we really need to spending this much money fighting a war for Israel?
It is difficult to get an accurate number. Iran is sending cheap drones in the multiple hundreds every day, and each is intercepted by anti air rockets worth millions and tens of millions.
Actually, I would be curious to know if the US is downing these in cheap means or with Patriot anti air.
IDK if the US government is counting the munitions it is using or just salaries/food/shelter of personnel.
Why are we including military aid unrelated to the Iran war? Most of this cannot be called „Direct Military Spending“ at all.
The second-order costs of this war will dwarf direct military costs. Oil price spike from the Strait being closed and oil/gas fields shut down. Loss of geopolitical influence over Gulf States. Further devaluation of US dollar and increase in borrowing costs due to loss of confidence in US stability and Petro dollar system.
Money to bomb Iran which was not a threat but no money to defend Ukraine, which is fighting a real enemy.
This is really good. I appreciate you taking the effort to do that, tracking every news item about the war is really tough.
