I’d actually love CBC to become like the UKs BBC and have a broader or world appeal.
CBC Gem is basically a Netflix with tons of Canadian content and while I’m not sure how licensing works, I’d love for it to be accessible outside of Canada just to export our culture a bit more.

Ever since CBC announced massive bonuses to their executive team while doing massive layoffs, I lost any sympathy for them.
Good decision by the Liberals here.

So no bonus for the CEO and executives?

Man I need that Scooby Doo meme of the face reveal of Mark Carney mask being Stephen Harper.
While it’s nowhere near what the CPC wants to do, building up the CBC seems like something of paramount importance, and knocking it down a notch isn’t something I support.

Guys Carney might not be that bad after all
Let’s get rid of all the overpaid CBC execs 🤢

So pledge $150M 11 months ago saying we’re falling behind Europe and need to do better, hint at even increasing from the $150M, and enshrine that funding in law so future governments can’t mess with it without approval for Parliament.
Thanks for following through on yet another promise!

This year’s estimates include $1.38-billion in funding for the CBC, representing a marked decrease from the $1.58-billion allotted to the public broadcaster during the 2025-26 fiscal year
I am a huge supporter of CBC. Totally foundational to the media landscape in Canada.

While that’s a big oof in terms of funding, at the same time a reminder that the Conservatives proposed cutting the CBC altogether, not decreasing funding by nearly $200 million. Still not great, not really supportive of this move, especially after the great Olympics coverage (ads aside lolol), but it’s still not an absolute guttage like Poilievre proposed. I’m sure most people get that of course, but just still noting it.

Neither a Liberal voter nor a Conservative voter, I’m just watching with amusement as the Liberal voters justify Carney’s policies which are, in a real sense, Stephen Harper 2.0.

Time for the CBC to receive a sustainable separation package, setting it up as a distinct and independent organisation. This means a sizeable capital that can form a trust, from which operating income came be drawn

Impossible I was told PP would do that and the liberals would save CBC! Has carney become the maple MAGA??

Lmao. So after all the bellyaching last year when Poilievre talked about this, including a whole-ass r/SaveTheCBC sub with paid ads, we now get to hear about what a great idea this is from the usual water-carriers. Gonna go get my popcorn ready.

Wtf… CBC is chronically underfunded, which is why they pledged a 150M increase less than a year ago. What happened to investing in Canada?https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/mark-carney-cbc-funding-1.7501902
