Just a guess, the tech is there, but the numbers are not. How many jammers, lasers, and whatever else they are using may simply not be enough for the area covered. And there are only so many missiles and cram bullets in theater.
If they want to start escourting ships along the irain shore, they will need to make sure they can actually protect more than just themselves, but the cargo ship as well.

Let me get this straight. Just so I understand this correctly.
For decades we have spent billions of dollars on drones. We pioneered the field. Like the Internet this is our child.
Now … we have spent nearly 5 years watching Russia humble themselves against a smaller nation. For three of those years we have watched Russia use drones to piss on Ukraine’s parade.
Then … you take us to war against the nation that designed, developed and produced the same drones Russia is using against Ukraine. And … you did not anticipate that we would be dealing with these drones?
We don’t have a counter measure? A proper defense? Where is this laser you’ve been developing? Where are the anti-drone guns that we have been developing? Why did we go to war against a nation without having developed a counter measure to the primary weapon they use – a weapon we’ve seen used effectively for over three years?
Make it make sense. Please.

“American leaders have announced that they reverse-engineered a captured Iranian Shahed drone and are using a tweaked version of it in the current conflict, a nod to the ingenuity of Iranians who developed it despite economic embargoes limiting what they could import. The American version, called LUCAS, for Low-cost Unmanned Combat Attack System, is built by Arizona-based SpektreWorks. The company did not respond to an email requesting comment.”

Iran nailed our bazillion dollar regional long-range radar system, which was apparently tied into our own tracking/targeting systems, so now we (and any allies) in the region are having some hiccups with that stuff. So that’s cool. No expensive ships nearby with thousands of sailors on board.
They keep reporting that Iran will be out of ballistics in a few days but are these drones the bigger problem? They seem to big pain in the arse in Ukraine and they aren’t running low on those. Either way I’d expect this thing to freeze again within two weeks. Iran I think wants a cease fire.
I think Ukraine figured it out. That is why the Russians use fiber optic cable to try to get around the jamming of GPS. Now the towns in Ukraine are covered in ’spider webs‘ of cables.
I’m not going to make any excuses for this administration, but in their mild defense, ~~hasn’t Qatar been able to shoot down like 75% of UAVs this week? I thought I read they intercepted like 90 of 120.~~ That seems like a decent success rate that we can probably improve on?

Correction. I was thinking of the United Arab Emirates. Today March 4 they intercepted 121 of 129 „unmanned aerial systems“ (aka drones). Since the start of the conflict, they’ve intercepted 876 of 941.

I’m assuming the UAE uses American military hardware. I guess you could argue that number should be close to 100% given the amount of money spent and preparation time… But that seems pretty damn good.

Yep. Those drones cost Iran 50K to make. They can kill a thadd launcher. That thadd launchers costs multiple millions and takes way longer to make.
The individual interceptor for thadd and patriot missile defenses are million for each one. Usually need 2 or 3 to take out a drone.
Iran can launch these drones from trucks that look like standard moving trucks in the US. Insanely cheap. And like 5 or 6 per truck.
These trucks can hide effectively everywhere in mountainous Iran. And Iran is already using a decentralized command structure.
They make 500 a day and had an estimated stock pile of 80k.
Just one drone can take out a tanker, oil field, refinery, small US ship etc.
Logistics wins wars. Not special tactics.
I think it’s literally impossible for the US and Israel to win before the economy collapses and Israel ends up bombed like crazy by tons of cheap drones.
Ukraine showed this already. Cheap drones and grinding artillery plus trench warfare is the new way of war.
Uh, word I am hearing is that our installations in Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain have been hit much harder than reported.
Very specifically is that our SATCOM systems are gone in those locations, the airfields at the Deid and Al Salem are unusable, and a significant portion of the Deid and Al Salem have been severely damaged.
A lot more stuff got through the defenses than is being reported.
