      Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares on Wednesday denied that the government had changed its position on supporting the U.S. military operations against Iran, contradicting a White House spokesperson.

      “I can refute (the White House spokesperson),” Albares told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser. “The position of the Spanish government regarding the war in the Middle East, the bombing of Iran and the use of our bases has not changed one iota.”

      Albares spoke in Madrid shortly after White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt had said that Spain had changed its position and “they’ve agreed to cooperate with the U.S. military.”

      Fairly obvious that Trump admin realised they actually can’t sanction Spain due to the EU but decided to say bullshit again because none of their cult are critical thinkers and will just flat out believe anything they say.

      What a circus. What a show… a shitshow, that’s literally what they are.

      This is a fairly standard Trump tactic, he’s done it loads of times in the past. (Before being president).

      He’ll loudly and publicly claim something, positing as an agreed done deal even though it absolutely isn’t, which causes people to start planning around that and get the ball rolling.

      The victim is usually too small in comparison to be able to afford to say that Trump just lied his ass off, so they go along with it and pretend Trump did actually consult them and it was a bilateral agreement.

      In this situation, if Spain were as helpless as Trump’s typical victims of this (contractors, small businesses, etc.), they’d say that they were indeed cooperating with the US, and the lie would slide.

      Yeah as soon as Karoline said that I knew it was bullshit. If Spain folded that easily they would have folded on the 5% NATO spending a long time ago.

      I hope the embarrassment of this whole tit for tat makes the admin realize why Americans have grown averse to adventurism. We should only be dealing with people who explicitly want us there and not just flexing our muscle worldwide.
