I’ll always hold my ground on collective morality when it comes to euthanizing people who can easily be treated for a chemical imbalance or other issue that can be treated with medication, therapy, love or money. It’s wrong
I will stand and listen to any argument and most often agree with those who are pro when it comes to physical ailments
But not mental
Thats just me

I think if someone goes through all the therapy, meds, and steps, and after years and years nothing works, they should be allowed to ask for MAID.
If it’s that bad for someone, I don’t think it’s a question of „if“, but „when“ they take their lives. I think the humane thing is an option for them to do it painlessly, in a proper environment, with proper care for their remains and loved ones.

Yeah fuck this dystopian shit. Improve access to mental health health care.

Cheaper to let people die than give them access to healthcare

Nobody here has a damn clue what these people experience. You have no idea and you’re talking about expanded healthcare and let me guess youd be the first to complain about high taxes

My ex took her life after years of suffering from PMDD. Everyday I still wish she was here but I also wish this would have been an option for her after she exhausted all treatment options. 😔

I do believe that MAID is generally a good thing. I also think that there are going to be all sorts of unintended consequences, like the stories of poorer people opting for MAID because they cannot afford the medical treatment or support that would make living with their health issues tolerable.
But I do not think that MAID for mental illness is a good idea. My support for MAID is predicated on the idea that it needs to be initiated by someone who is able to make a rational decision based on health issues that cannot be treated.
Mental illness is not compatible with that because someone who is mentally ill, by definition, is not able to make entirely rational decision.

Ugh, not so sure about that. I know there are some very severe cases out there, but I worry that some will use that as an excuse to justify suicide for only mild symptoms.
On top of that, psychology and psychiatry are still „work in progress“ fields where, almost yearly it seems, new mental illnesses are created, others disappear, and many are so difficult to understand and diagnose that doctors just throw random meds at someone hoping that their diagnosis this time was the good one.
I empathize with those who suffer from truly cataclysmic mental health issues like severe schizophrenia or out of control and impulse driven sociopathy … but I’m just worried that everyone who suffers from your run of the mill clinical depression will use this as an excuse to seek the easy way out rather than look for solutions.

Eh, we really should develop MAID tourism and open it up to foreign tourists/visitors who want to leave the mortal coil and are willing to pay Canadian health systems for the privilege to do it peacefully and painlessly under medical supervision
It’s a good regulatory arbitrage opportunity and would help fund our healthcare.

Want advanced requests passed in law. MAID leaves out people who wish to check out should they become be striken by alzheimer’s or debilitating strokes etc…

It will be the „solution“ for many as we allow unlimited hoarding of essentials like shelter for unlimited profit.

I’m someone who wants to use MAID for mental illness. Been diagnosed with multiple issues, including borderline.
I’ve done therapy for years. I’ve done mental health inpatient programs. I’ve had numerous counsellors and psychiatrists.
I should have the right to choose to die with dignity, surrounded by my friends and family. Instead of traumatizing them by finding me when I’ve finally had enough.
