Actually, the doctor that created him was named Frankenstein, but he was just referred to as ‚the monster‘ or ‚Frankenstein’s monster‘. I hope she told him to read a fucking book.

  2. And if it were Nolan? Fincher? Basically any male director would never have been told something so ridiculous. Gyllenhaal can have Frankenstein’s monster do whatever the fuck she pleases.

Maggie is one of my favourites when it comes to production and directing. She takes real chances and puts herself on the line to do it.

    Can’t wait up see this

I really loved The Lost Daughter and I’m glad she’s working with Jessie again. It was such a good directorial debut.

This is a completely different type of film, so I’m interested to see her take on this story.

So the sexual violence is being criticized just because she’s a woman “And I was talking about it with a girlfriend of mine, who said — and she wasn’t being reductive — ‘I wonder if you had been a man making this movie, if you would have had the same response.’””

Even though she herself says “I [also] want to talk about the sexual violence, because that’s another thing that I have been taken to task for… in the test screenings. I had a couple of women say, ‘I don’t want to see a woman being violated.’ And I think, I also don’t want to see that. And yet that is a major reality in the culture that we’re living in — just in the time I was cutting this movie, how much wildly disturbing brutality against women there has been in the world. And so if we’re going to see it, we need to see it in a way that is very hard to watch, because it is very awful. And if you know anything about me, if you looked at any of my work, even starting with ‘Secretary’ when I was 22, this is something that I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about. I am sure that I have been thoughtful about this particular subject, and yet it will be hard to watch. I think we can take it.”

Like no, we can just not depict sexual violence in movies. Don’t depict really graphic sexual violence and then shrug when people criticize you for it just because you’re a woman. The only people who think we need to portray sexual violence in this way are the people who are so wholly detached from it that they think we should sit and watch it happen in a movie because they think it’s good filmmaking to depict something horrific

  6. I’m sorry, what prudish boss is there at Warner Bros?

Heaven forbid the studio that produced The Idol be associated with… licking black vomit off a neck?

Maggie, you made The Deuce with this company, what “the man,” is holding you back?
