The whole press conference was kinda funny. He basically like „Theyre fighting, they should stop fighting. Oh, and dont drag us in it“

    2. If Iran military had the chance they would destroy every single western nation including Canada. If the USA didn’t intervene this would have been reality in the near future. Why exactly are we concerned? Carney is absolute joke and can’t pick a lane.

Quite honestly I feel like Canada should have STFU from the beginning.

A simple statement such as „The hearts of Canadians go out to the Iranian people, and are genuinely hoping for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.“ would have done the trick.

    4. He seems really focused on telling Iran to de escalate. Wait who started this war again? Who scrapped the Nuclear deal which was in place?

Canada has NOTHING to gain by siding with the US or Israel. The Iranian regime is bad and I don’t care for their leader dying, but within hours a school was struck and Carney didn’t mention that but he did say Iran should be careful of hitting civilians?

Focus on our own stuff. Make deals and focus on building up our own country stay out of this shit completely please.

    5. Yes big old Canada calling on deescalation, that call will get traction. Empty platitudes to be on record doing so.

That’s what you VERY FIRST STATEMENT should’ve been….

For someone so smart, this was your biggest blunder so far, now you look like an hypocrite; your first reaction was to rubber-stamp whatever the US was doing without much nuance or call for an immediate return to the negotiation table….

Honestly, China looks like the only country able to do foreign policy messaging the right way…. Everyone else looks like a bunch of two-face sycophants.

You know if carney had just said this to the press rather then posting it on Twitter first. It would have been recieved much better.

“ we support this”. “Okay guys let’s stop now”. Do you really think Trump is going to listen to us lmfao.

    9. AmongstTheShadow on

Why would we want de escalation? How is any of this not in our best interest?

You sir can’t back it then say”slow down boys”. It shouldn’t work like that at all. Drive to reverse is always bad for the engine.

    11. If he didn’t cheer it on from the beginning, this would be ok. Now just looks hypocritical

So the Liberals have enough support that they can discard the Persian vote, interesting.

Trump’s motivation for this mess is questionable, it seems like he got suckered by Israel and Saudi Arabia. Israel because they want Iran to be another Syria and Saudi Arabia because they want to have a greater share of the oil market. But Trump’s story changes on a daily basis. I’m more inclined to believe Rubio when he put his foot in his mouth and blamed Israel. What a brain-dead thing to say, even if it is true.

I’m not against the strike given the deaths of thousands of Iranians and Iran’s nuclear threat, but you need a plan before starting a major conflict like this. The Americans have never been good at nation building, but this group of monkeys can’t even get the attack phase right. Given that Trump changes his mind daily and his spineless/brainless cabinet, this is not a surprise.

As for Carney, I’m not impressed. I’m far from a Maple MAGAt, but how do you deescalate when Iran is launching hundreds, if not thousands of missiles and drones. Now that the Genie is out of the bottle you have to finish the job. He’s obviously playing both sides of the argument.

All the got from this is he and Pollievere supported the US doing this which leaves the NDP who condemned as the only party to vote for the next election

    15. Oh would you look at that he found his spine again. Tune in next month when he loses it again

Carneys first statement was what he thinks, now he’s just trying to save face.

    17. Lower_Cantaloupe1970 on

I didnt really like his initial statement, and this one 2 days later seems weird.

    18. This thread in a nutshell:

      „Carney supports attacking Iran“

      2 days later

      „Carney is flip-flopping“

      Make up your minds….

    19. Online_Commentor_69 on

oh yeah sure, the entire leadership structure of their country has been killed in the last 48 hours but let’s „de-escalate“ as if our side hasn’t already pushed this well past the point of no return. we didn’t take the head off the snake, we took the lid off the jar.

    20. Kinda baffling why he’d signal support for the war in the first place if he’d call for it’s end only a few days later. I get that being PM isn’t exactly an easy job, but a girls hospital was bombed on day one so unless the statement was made without context (which would still be quite bad to do) I’m unsure why he’d put out a statement of support and then soft retract it so quick.

    21. The main thing I’ve got from them comments here is that almost no one has any idea what’s actually going on in Iran.

    22. Thereal_Stormm006 on

Hope Carney keeps doing this to himself. The more he makes Pierre Poilievre look like a Prime Minister in Waiting, the better.

    23. jesuisapprenant on

He fucking praised the strikes before even knowing what’s going on. He’s not an experienced politician; he’s not focusing on domestic issues, and his foreign policy is a complete disaster. He needs to surround himself with experts in the field and not the likes of Fraser, Diab, and a bunch of other idiotic, unqualified ministers who have zero idea WTF they’re even doing
