  1. It’s a noticeable hit when so few other people are getting raises. You either raise salaries and prices across the board, or accept cheap labour from overseas. There’s not a whole lot of middle ground that doesn’t involve companies going under. If you’re one of the locals bitching about immigration, surely you choose the 70 yen.

  3. I may be the odd one out here but to me getting a taxi has always been the luxury option of public transport. That price increase really doesn’t make a difference to that view in my mind.

    Japan is like 50% old people who are one license renewal away from not being able to drive anymore. They will complain about the 70yen, but they will have to use the service no matter what.

    Maybe if they cancelled one of their many subscriptions to placebo health supplements they bought from TV infomercials, they could afford the taxi.
