Maybe you shouldn’t have supported the US and Israel illegally bombing another country if you wanted hostilities to de-escalate then Carney
Had to backtrack quickly on his initial hawkwishness and submission to US imperialism (despite all the fake rhetoric about middle powers uniting on a rules based order).
Will he condemn the US and Israel for starting this chaos now?
I suppose these are the right sounding noises for whatever they’re worth, which is basically nothing.
Nothing Canada says will make a lick of difference at this point in time. Maybe in 57 days (or is it 56? I forget…). Probably not though.
But I guess saying this will burnish Carney’s bona fides in Canada so it’s worth saying to that extent, right? Gotta play the politics after all (not that anything Carney says will make a single lick of difference to anything).
It’s all kind of tiresome, but such is politics.
So it goes…
Probably shouldn’t of signed off on a statement until the Staes ran through all the lies and landed on the eventual truth of “we just whatever we wanted and have no idea what’s next”
Iran was negotiating. They offered to get rid of their nuclear stockpile (going further than under the JCPOA) hours before the war. This military operation was entirely unnecessary, and we never should have voiced our support.

MARGARET BRENNAN: What has Iran agreed to, to you, that they have never done before? Can you give us any sense?
MINISTER ALBUSAIDI: The single most important achievement, I believe, is the agreement that Iran will never, ever have a nuclear material that will create a bomb. This is, I think, a big achievement. This is something that is not in the old deal that was negotiated during President Obama’s time. This is something completely new. It really makes the enrichment argument less relevant, because now we are talking about zero stockpiling. And that is very, very important, because if you cannot stockpile material that is enriched then there is no way you can actually create a bomb, whether you enrich or don’t enrich. And I think this is really something that has been missed a lot by the media, and I want to clarify that from the standpoint of a mediator.
It truly is incredible that we live in a time where your average joe is actually smarter than a world leader.
Everyone and their grandmother knew this was a bad idea going in and would have either denounced it or just kept silent to avoid escalation.
Our brilliant leader, however, thought it was a good idea to instantly and emphatically support an illegal war effort, leave the public hanging for days, then politely ask everyone to calm down while their government just watches and does nothing.
How hard is it to just do the obvious, normal thing that everyone agrees with?
Carney’s initial statement needs to be seen in a wider context. Canada has no say on this conflict. So why did Carney comment? It’s a cheap way to score points with the U.S. admin as we negotiate a new trade deal. Second, it plays well with Iranian, pro-Israel, and right of centre groups in Canada.
I’m not a fan of the statement but in the grand scheme of things it’s not important.
I agree with this statement. It’s very America does not have a plan and Israel just wants to keep bombing. I just hope the bombings did enough to help protestors and did not just strengthen the regime.
Our stance from the very start should have been about preserving human lives and about the protestors
