      He literally doesn’t care. His response to the tariffs being deemed illegal was to increase tariffs. Hegseth celebrated the fact that without following normal channels, they don’t have to worry about those pesky rules of engagement.

      These creatures don’t *care* if it’s legal or not. They don’t *care* if their actions are proven to be unlawful.

      They’re past the point of making up stories or justifications, or even lies; they’re now at the point of just saying “okay, and?”

      The ‚imminent threat‘ was that Israel said they were going to bomb Iran.

      And based on past experience when someone bombs Iran they retaliate.

      So USA had to pre-emptive strike Iran to deminish their capacity to retaliate.

      Of course if you just tell Benjamin Netanyahu to sit on a stick and spin then there was never an imminent threat.

      Trump got played by Benjamin Netanyahu, who in his own words „has been wanting to bomb Iran for 40 years“.

      Trump pretending the USA has no ability to dissuade Israel from bombing Iran is laughable.

      The USA gives 3.8 Billion per year to Israel and provides insane amounts of military support by shooting down hundreds of missiles launched by Iran before they get anywhere near Israel. The value of having two fully operational (toilets aside) air craft carrier groups watching your back has is huge.

      People in this thread are easily distracted by the irrelevant discussion about whether or not things are „legal“ per „international law“, and are therefore confused and completely in the dark about what’s actually happening here.

      The US motivations in this war have very little to do with Israel, other than that it has found an incredibly effective ally in the region who is willing to absorb damage and offer intelligence and firepower.

      The reason Trump/the US is fighting Iran has everything to do with China. A quarter of Iran’s GDP is oil exports to China, who is an energy importer due to their vast manufacturing capabilities. The US rightfully feels threatened by the Chinese plan to become the world’s pre-eminent superpower by 2040. The power dynamics that flow from Iran’s relationship with China, and China’s path to world dominance (and consequently threatening American world dominance), has convinced the American administration that they need to act now.

      Israel obviously sees a lot of benefits to overthrowing the regime, since it represents an acute security threat, and has plotted and executed massacres and attacks against Israel due to its ideological opposition to the existence of israel as a Jewish state.

      Israeli and American interests are in almost complete alignment for this war. But don’t make the mistake in thinking that they’re not independent. They’re operating on two different chess boards, with two completely different scopes.

      And the third chessboard is intra-Iranian politics. In this scope, the interests of the Iranian people, the vast majority of whom oppose the IRGC, clearly align with Israel and the US interests.

Same people believing their president wont bomb school because they are fighting a brutal dictatorship who does not care about its populuous.       The fact that Trump is really annoyed with our PM confirms we are doing the right thing in not getting involved more than we need to in order to protect British interests.

      The fact that Israel have invaded Lebanon and are seizing land to “protect” its citizens confirms this has nothing to do with wanting to effect regime change in Iran.

      Plus I’ve lost count of the number of different reasons Trump/Rubio/Vance/Hegseth have given in an attempt to justify their action.

      I feel heartbroken for Iranians who will pay a heavy price for this.
