      That’s a huge statement if true. Poland has always felt squeezed between Russia and Germany and with the current situation I can see why they’d want their own deterrent. Still the idea of more nuclear states in Europe is unsettling. Hope diplomacy catches up before things escalate further.

      Any country that doesn’t want to be invaded by a greater power needs nuclear weapons

      Look at Ukraine, Libya, and now Iran

      The only reason America doesn’t **** with Kim Jong Un is because they actually have nukes

      This is something that should be done swiftly and quietly, not broadcasting to the whole world. What if the American government intervenes?

      If I’m not mistaken, this isn’t the first time Poland has said that. I think it’s mainly about applying pressure rather than a genuine intention to acquire nuclear weapons

      Never going to happen.

      I’d be shocked if either France or the US wants a country like Poland to have nuclear weapons. Global hegemony is more important for them even at the expense of small countries. I don’t even say that as a criticism. I would have the same belief if I were French or American.

      I hope. Russia willing for us the worst. Krauts also started talking about nukes with AfD on the rise, which had people talking about taking Poland’s western territories and try portray thelselves as the biggest victims because we chased their Nazi grandfathers away.

      I always strongly approved polish nukes but there are 2 very major problems:

      1) Poland doesn’t even have a single nuclear power plant, it will take decades to build own nukes unless someone shares tech(not likely)

      2) USA may threaten to make sanctions so politicians will withdraw this idea

      I still can’t believe that Tusk wants Poland to have nukes

      I got downvoted for saying that this Iran and Ukraine stories will just make it much more common that countries will want nukes, AND that there won’t be a way to negotiate them out of this.

      Unfortunately this makes our world a lot less safe. All it takes is one regime to throw a nuke at someone and literal hell will break loose on all of us.

      I do understand why some countries will try to pursue this

      Good. They’re smart people. Nukes are the only way to ensure that you’re not going to get invaded by a stronger nation.

      Having nukes and no nuclear submarine is useless if they want to be credible, that is why countries like Poland will never ever be able to assume such a high cost that it is financial and diplomatic .

      And good luck getting much needed data from nuclear explosion only China, Iran and North Korea still does that….

      Jokes aside, boasting about it sounds stupid – if they get one and the world allows them, it’ll seriously undermine NPT and next Cambodia (half Poland’s population)-Thailand (1.5 Poland’s population) conflict can end up with nuclear warheads used. If they don’t get one it’d be just bad rep. Though politicians usually don’t care about such things.

      Honestly, joining France’s umbrella would be best provided France is actually ready to use them and have defined protocol that would give Poland clear scenarios where it is and isn’t going to be used.

      Thanks to Obama and his successors now everyone will want nukes and I think everyone should obtain it. Nukes is the only real security guarantee

      The moment Russia invaded Ukraine it became likely that medium-sized states would seek nuclear weapons. The moment the US signalled that it was opting out of leading role in global security it became inevitable.

      How does Poland finance that after their announced enormous military buildup?
      How do they get the knowhow? So far Poland isn’t operating just a single nuclear power plant and just one (aging) research reactor which is focusing on medical and some industrial research.

      more eu countries need nukes. poland can have some but germany and maybe spain or italy should also get some. right now we are dependend on france to secure the eu and it would only take a single averse goverment there to take back the nuclear shield.

      Better do it now before Russia has a claim to it being „an existential threat next to their borders“, as an excuse for – and I can’t believe I have to say these words combined in 2026 – annexing Poland.
