  1. USA doesn’t get involved in any wars for “democracy” or to “help the poor oppressed people” it’s always about power, control, and helping its corporations amass more wealth and power.

This war is no different. They will take over Iran, extract its wealth and leave it worse than they found it just like everywhere else.

The only real exceptions are Korea and Japan, where USA invested a ton of money into these nations so they could have a controllable vassal on the other side of the pacific.

Okay, 150,000 people rallied in Toronto about a month ago to demonstrate solidarity with the protestors Khomeini was brutally cracking down on:

But Read the Maple has found three pro-regime commentators and insists we should all be listening to them and *only* them.

Putting aside the question of whether it’s beneficial for America to be involving itself in another foreign war (it isn’t), the left wing media is going to have a pretty difficult time selling us the narrative that Khomeini was anything other than an evil, regressive despot who’s exit from the world is long overdue. And frankly, it’s exhausting that they’re trying.

Whatever you think of the [former] Ayatollah there is absolutely no reason to think the outcome of this will be a government that puts the best interests of Iranians first in any real way.

The discourse around this is hilarious. If you point out that these strikes are happening for self-serving reasons, you’re „simping“ for the current Iranian regime, according to some here.

Regime change with no plan leads to a Libya situation – Gaddafi is a bad guy so we’re going to topple him and then just…go home. Guess what – from the ensuing anarchy emerged a fucking slave trade. Great work guys! At least the MIC got to test out some shiny new toys?

This regime change attempt probably has more of a plan, and US goals are going to be based on installing a puppet government and probably just taking their oil if possible. The wellbeing of the Iranian people is simply not a motivating factor here no matter how much noise people make about it.

More broadly – toppling a regime that you are able to characterize as „bad“ in some way, even if you’re right, does not mean you’re headed towards a better outcome.

It’s enticing to want to hope there really will be a free Iran from all of this, and there *have* been big protests. But air wars have an extremely poor track record at achieving it. You end up blowing up a school, or something, and suddenly removing the government looks a lot like a pile of dead children.

What we think isn’t going to change what Trump will do, so there’s little point in arguing about it. We’ll see what’s going to happen. But if you are going to be optimistic, please, try to be *cautiously* optimistic. There has never been a recorded instance of an air campaign achieving positive regime change, despite many attempts.
