Could be part of a larger geopolitical shift. The sharks smell blood in the water.

The staggering success of the US-Israeli strikes (the IRGC is in shambles and regime leadership seems thoroughly decapitated) might be changing the calculus for a lot of once cautious nations to join in on the party.

France is moving an aircraft carrier into the gulf after Iran attacked their naval base. The gulf states that host US bases are pissed at Iran for attacking them. The UAE, a longtime lifeline of Iran is closing its embassy in Tehran and withdrawing, potentially signaling they’re on the path to severing diplomatic relations with Iran, which would be huge. Iran did launch all kinds of missiles and drones at them which destroyed at least one high rise, so…

Heck, even Canada who the US isn’t on the best terms with these days came out in support of the US strikes. That’s telling you something.

Meanwhile, Russia condemned the strikes against Iran but didn’t lift a finger to help, same as when the Assad regime fell. China hasn’t even offered a statement condemning the US-Israeli strikes. Their silence is telling. Iran’s out of friends.

This is almost purely for the B-2 at Diego Garcia. It’s truly over for Iran lol.

If air defense is truly eradicated, might see B-52s flying out of there too.

    3. As a Brit this is fucking stupid – nothing to do with us.  If we have more terror attacks here for supporting the right wing regime in the US people will really not be fucking happy.

I don’t understand how somebody who was a successful barrister and argued in court hundreds of times, before becoming a successful politician and arguing in parliament hundreds of times, can have such an awkward cadence in the video announcing this.

    5. Sounds good. It is pretty much over for their missile and air capability, if not the Iran religious nutcase regime itself.

Hornets nest. Provocation lead the 3 of the strongest members of NATO getting involved

    7. > He said the move was in accordance with international law, and the government would publish a summary of its legal advice.

That’s a very good way to approach such a request.

    8. And in an utterly predictable turn of events , Akrotiri airbase has just been targeted in Cyprus.

    9. Being reported in a few places that our RAF base in Cyprus was targeted. Might be the reason for this change in tact from the UK. The targeting may be a retaliation. Not sure yet.

I think Iran made the mistake of attacking allied bases which has now given these other countries justification to get directly involved.

Biggest calculus change would have been Iran’s response in bombing everything and anything and closing the Strait of Hormuz. That pushes all out regional warfare into near certainty unless Arab leaders are confident that the US and Israel can contain the problem by themselves. From the point of view of the UK, it’s bad fucking news if it gets to a full scale Middle East conflict

Explosions at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus, it is an RAF base but the US operate from there too.

    13. So the iri managed to even bring up the most radical islamic country against them

Has Iran saved the western alliance? If so, say thank you. At least until/if U.S. administration messes it up again if it is repaired for now.

We should not facilitate this US war. By all means defend our middle east allies, but don’t bow to the whim of one deranged president led by Netanyahu.

    16. for everyone saying that it is because Iran attacked us….Keir actually said this permission is in response to a US request.

      from the BBC report

„The UK has agreed to a US request to use British military bases for „defensive“ strikes on Iranian missile sites, Sir Keir Starmer has said“

Trump and bibi couldnt give a fuck about day 2 as long as they achieve their objective of getting the present regime on its knees and accepting any conditions they impose or another puppet government doing the same. If there is a civil war, which is very likely given the different fractions at play – they couldnt care less. This is Iraq v 2.0 all over again and guess what another Labour leader that cant stand up. Fast forward – another migration crisis with huge swaths coming to Europe to escape the misery back home. USA and Israel wont be affected that much.

Wonder if this is a ‚we’ll go along with you taking Iran if you forget about Greenland‘ kind of situation.

    19. I feel like this is painting a target on our backs.

If the US wants to strike Iran then that is their business but I don’t love the idea of being involved.

Makes me think back of the wars we got pulled into with the US.

    20. Some people around here really are defending the Iran government, that’s crazy

    21. Canuck-overseas on

Perhaps this comes as no surprise….but the UK hasn’t had an independent foreign policy for around 60 years.

That had to be the most weak, pathetic speech from a sitting PM in living memory…the man is utterly useless.
