As long as we do that for every other development, sure.
Singling out datecentres is pointless.

Does it matter? These data centres will be built, if they are in the uk then there is a better chance of their data being protected under Uk law, and their emissions properly reported
If there is value for the data centres coming here then they should also be contributing to the provision of the clean power they need
Why are we not asking if all the tat we buy from China increases emissions

BTW petrolhead just gone electric car cos it’s cheaper 0- 60 in 5.9 seconds take the same energy and generates the same heat !

So they should!! It’s bizarre that they don’t already. It should be a precondition of gaining planning approval – or not.

I wanna know how they’re affecting my energy bills and how much infrasound they produce.

Don’t be silly.
That would expose just how much of the long term cost of these is being shifted to the taxpayer, for the benefit of a few hundred jobs and a big figure headline about „investment in the UK“.
Call me a cynic, but on purely financial terms, these aren’t things that produce an actual benefit to the country (there’s some benefits for data sovereignty, but that’s impossible to price).

People should watch the video on data centre infrasound polution by Benn Jordan.

JFC, the sooner we get short of these shackles the better. We’re our own bloody worst enemy at throwing away any potential source of prosperity the better.
