Why exactly do we have a pro-U.S stance on this? USA is clearly warmongering across the continents.

It’s all about vote politics. In Toronto and Vancouver, we have a large Iranian community, and the majority of them are anti-regime. No party would want to lose that vote.

Iran has already murdered Canadians, and Canada has declared the IRGC to be a terrorist organization. Canada wasn’t on good terms with Iran and its allies, and this isn’t going to change that.

      > Of the 167 passengers, 138 were travelling to Canada via Ukraine. Many of the Iranian Canadians were affiliated with Canadian universities, as students or academics who had travelled to Iran during the winter break. The crash was the largest loss of Canadian lives in aviation since the 1985 bombing of Air India Flight 182.

Good thing we didn’t deem IRGC as a terrorist entity, wonder how many we have in Canada.

This ‘regime’ just killed 50k of its citizens for the crime of wanting a different govt. regardless of what me or you may personally feel about US and their motives, the outcome is opening up possibilities for a population that has been kept in actual oppression for decades. I think we should support that.

Local Iranians near Yonge & Sheppard are celebrating. Seems like the Iranians here are in support

    7. Canada is a pro- Iranian people stance ! That’s the point of everything. Not pro US, not anti – IRAN !

CANADA is PRO – iranian people and against the regime !!!

That means the decision was the correct one. We shouldn’t be in fear of extremists, they should be in fear of us

What a shitty title. It’s not pro-US. It’s pro-life. The Islamic Republic is a plague that needs to go.

As much as I hate to see the violence, the Iranian regime needed to go, and it was not going to go of its own accord. The reality is we are talking about a government that supports most of the most dangerous terrorist organizations in the Middle East, and executes children by slow public strangling for reporting having been raped. I am not shedding a tear for the animals in charge, but my heart aches for the poor civilians caught in cross fire, and I hope that the Iranian people will be able to build the free and democratic government that they have yearned for since they overthrew the repression of the Shah

I feel like PM Carney could have been a bit less supportive of an illegal strike by the US and Israel. Yes the Iranian regime is horribly oppressive and evil.
I get that we don’t want to be on the receiving end of Trump’s insanity and hostility.

Like two things can be true. We can be supportive of the Iranian people living under such a regime while also be against illegal strikes.  So many innocent lives lost today.

There was a bit of that expressed but not nearly enough. Or not explicitly enough from what I read of the press release.

I just hope we don’t get pressured into a stupid war.

Iranians all around the world are celebrating right now.

And the only people that seem to be enraged are white Western liberals.

No winning this one. Dont support it, Carney loves an evil terrorist regime.

Yeah, fuck it. I *loathe* the US, but if they’ve killed Khomeni then that’s a good thing. Fuck the Islamists.

    15. Are we supposed to have a pro-Iran stance instead? What do people want Carney to do?

    16. TurdsofWisdom on

Just because you hate Trump doesn’t mean he’s wrong 100% of the time.

Canada is doing the right thing. Support our ally but no troops. Stand our ground with the US and stand our ground against terrorism.

      Freedom for the Iranian people!

    18. Respect to Carney for moral clarity on this one. UN crying about the truly horrible people being killed is laughable but expected.

    19. Consistent-Study-287 on

Iran is getting what they deserve, but at the same time it’s way too early to know if it’s a good thing or not. What has happened too many times in history is America does a regime change, and then the regime oppresses the citizens, and then what rises up to fight against the new American regime is worse than what was before.

That’s exactly what happened in Iran which led to the Ayatollah being in power. And in the worst case scenario you get what happened in Cambodia with the rise of Pol Pot.
