Why did the navy evacuate instead of just shooting down incoming missiles? Can someone explain the logic to a regard like me.

Comparisons to WW1 more apt than WW2 if the balloon really does go up. Reasons for this:

1. No ideological difference between the major players. Imperialists all round, classic Great Game stuff. Iran isn’t much of an imperial player of course, but the Russians are and they won’t like this.

2. Lot of barely tested technology on the field, in WW1 it was the machinegun, later gas and planes, if this thing escalates out to include Russia and China we’re going to see cyberwarfare on a huge scale, drones all out the wazoo, and last of all we all might get to check out modern nuclear weapons.
