> The officer responsible for running the by-election rejected the claims, saying no reports of family voting had been made by polling station staff.
>A spokesperson for the Acting Returning Officer said: „Polling station staff are trained to look out for any evidence of undue influence on voters.
„No such issues have been reported today.
>“If Democracy Volunteers were so concerned about alleged issues they could and should have raised them with us during polling hours so that immediate action could be taken.
>“We have operated a central by-election hub which has been rapidly responding to reported issues during the day, in liaison with the police – who had a presence at every polling station – where necessary.
>“It is extremely disappointing that Democracy Volunteers have waited until after polls have closed to make such claims.“
I’ll admit, the original edit of this comment implicated reform, but according to the article Labour have latched onto it as well.

From the article:
„However, the by-election’s acting returning officer said polling station staff were trained to look for undue influence on voters and **“no such issues“ had been reported during polling hours.**“
The mainstream establishment who love Reform/Labour/Tories are now quaking in their boots that a real progressive party can win decisive elections in safe seats and will be pulling out all the stops to denigrate and diminish the Greens in any way possible.

I’m being naive I’m sure – but what’s the issue with family voting? Is it a concern about coercion?

I am really surprised that being in the polling booth with someone else is an offence only since 2023.
How was the law before the Ballot Secrecy act?

Who exactly are these independent election observers ‚Democracy Volunteers‘? I checked their website, the about page doesn’t seem to tell you who runs it or funds it.

Huge amounts of cope from The Sensibles this morning after another show of incompetence from the pundits and pollsters. This was an absolute walloping and none of them saw it coming.

So, Muslim husbands are forcing their wives to vote for a party headed by a gay Jewish man, because they feared their Muslim wives would vote for party which has a Muslim as its head spokesman, which has a habit of demonising Muslims as a whole… it’s these evil husbands forcing their poor wives into voting Greens over Reform?

The officer is a fool if they don’t acknowledge this happened. My own parents and grandparents did it, families do vote in blocs, and it’s always occured before the recent law change. The realpolitik side of Labour’s strategy with 16 year old votes would be to expand the voting power of these large families. They just didn’t expect them to go Green.

This is not a story at all, what concerns the hell out of me is that over 10,000 people felt compelled to vote Reform.
Now, i get that almost the entire Tory vote switched to Reform but even still. NIgel fucking garbage…cmon people?
Also, 47% turnout. voter apathy is a real issue as well

Concerning? Yes but it’s very much out of MAGAs playbook to blame cheating after losing, I wouldn’t be surpised if their American money backers pitched this conspiracy months ago.

And let me guess if this didn’t happen the pendulum would swing FULLY in reform’s favour? British MAGA sore loser bullshit.

Of course another way to look at it is, ‘I’m not voting Labour because they lied, I’m not voting Conservative because of Covid, I’m not voting Reform because they are all loonies, who’s left?’ Maybe something along those lines. 🤷♂️

They have 5 MPs the rest are there illegitimatly from the Tories. They have no mandate to say they were robbed of anything. People came together to keep them out.
No evidence was seen by any electoral official to suggest anything illegal happening
Reform are using the Trump playbook again.
They lost, I hope they continue to lose. They are nothing but a disrupters party aimed at destroying our country from within.
Next we’ll have their thugs and yobs on the street burning libraries and looting Greggs

Everyone screaming sour grapes seems to be forgetting- this concern was raised by an independent voluntary organisation, not the government or Reform. To see the denialism on display here is, to say the least, alarming. Independent observers are absolutely central to the democratic process.

So Democracy Volunteers are indeed that, volunteers who undergo 6hrs of training and need no previous experience. Would it be difficult to orchestrate a number of paid stooges to sign up as volunteers prior to the election and get them to raise ‚concerns‘ under the guise of being an independent observer?

Worth separating rhetoric from evidence here..
The concerns about “family voting” in Gorton and Denton were raised by Democracy Volunteers, not invented by Reform UK..
Whether it affected the result is a different question though and that’s for evidence and the authorities, not party spin.. if it occurred, there’s no evidence which party it favoured or that it altered the result.. Anything beyond that is just assumption..
