They thought they would rake the EU over the coals in Brexit negotiations, score themselves a huge win where all their demands are fulfilled and the EU just gives in to everything. Of course this would have led to other countries also seeking a similar deal for themselves, resulting in the EU slowly disintegrating.
Of course none of this happened since the EU was well aware of both its value as well as the stakes and thus, it played hardball.

I’m amazed of this. When this Brexit thing started I was not very versed in politics and whatnot and it was quite obvious the idea was stupid as fuck. How the hell they managed to fool (over half of?) UK.
BS, there’s multiple countries who have said they’d love to leave but cannot afford it, the EU has them locked in, for every benefit there’s always more negatives, in its current form it’s stupid and unnecessarily so.
