People always say that Austria is rich, when Slovenian is actually richer and a higher quality of life.

I make 3000k+ in austria, why would i work for 1400€? i do live in slovenia tho
Because salaries are much higher in Austria. The reason why we rank so high is because we have a high property ownership (most people live in their own houses or apartments). Many Austrians on the other hand live in rented apartments, especially in Vienna and other big cities
That graph doesn’t make much sense. Austrians are definitely wealthier. Quality of life is higher in Slovenia if you already possess a house/an appt, otherwise it’s much harder to buy it. Also, some industries are much better developed in Austria, so you gather additional knowledge/experience, you learn a new language and it opens up a whole new market for you
How is „Median wealth“ define here exactly?
Wealth inequality is a very big deal here. But personally i never knew any Slovene to go to Austria for work, other ex Yugoslavians tho is another story.
A serious answer: you picked the one metric where we’re better than Austria.
Slovenia has very high median wealth because of a high rate of home ownership. This means that wealth is distributed far more equally than in other European countries. If you look at *average* wealth, the situation is very different.
It is also only wealth, not income. The median Austrian earns more than the median Slovene, but because they pay rent rather than mortgage, they don’t keep the wealth but transfer it to the landlord. Their disposable income and standard of living are still higher.
