Oh wow, we definitely should believe these unnamed sources. What is this shit?

  2. motionbutton on

lol.. I would be. I can’t really think of a successful streaming show transferring to the big screen in modern time. A couple have done alright. But it’s hard to get people to the theater if they think they have to watch 30 some hours of show to be caught up on what is happening.

  3. AllISeeAreFireworks on

The hardcore promotion will inevitably come as we get closer to the film’s release, but it’s nothing I’m excited over. I don’t know how well it’ll translate into a movie. I’ll still go see it, being a fan of *Star Wars*, but I’m not expecting to be blown away. I love being proven wrong, though, whenever it comes to things like this.

They don’t seem to be marketing it right. Is it the final conclusion to the show? Or a story with those characters? Is Bo-Katan a fan favorite, and important character in the show in the movie? What is the plot? Should viewers have seen the entire show before watching this movie?

  5. Griffdude13 on

I mean, it’s basically season 4 but theatrical. I feel like a lot of people are gonna wait until it streams because that’s what they’re used to for these characters at this point.

But also, the modern movie theater experience sucks. And even Star Wars isn’t a “definitely” for me.

  6. Far_Appearance3888 on

A lot of the hype for the show is long gone, and nothing about the trailer made this seem like it had to be a theater experience.

Make Hunt for Ben Solo, you cowards.

  7. Truthfully I feel like the story wrapped up pretty well at the end of season 3. Never really understood why they did a movie.

Who am I kidding we know the answer…it’s money.

  8. JOKER69420XD on

Looking at the quality of the show, which dropped significantly from season to season, with S3 completely shitting the bed, I would be worried too.

A theatrical release of a movie about the continued story of a streaming series, which is on a downward spiral, is simply a horrible idea.

I would be absolutely shocked if this doesn’t flop super hard.

I have three concerns with the film so far, which are somewhat mentioned in the article:

    1. The trailers so far suck. In one sense I’m glad they aren’t spoiling everything, but I’ve seen nothing that has shown anything apart from it looking like the show. Where are the increasing stakes or scaling?

    2. The theme is all too cutesy up to this point and not giving vibes like the original space western theme the series had. If it’s meant to be a G-rated opportunity for kids to fawn over „baby Yoda“ then that’s fine, but you’re not going to appeal to many people.

    3. The craze over this show and the characters went stale years ago. This was made worse by the fact that the final season wasn’t popular.

  10. Feels like it’s around 3 years too late if it’s goal was to parlay Baby Yoda mania into getting people into the theatre

  11. VibgyorTheHuge on

The problem is that they aren’t promoting a movie, they’re promoting a release date. The pitch for the film is either being kept obscure because (a) the plot is being kept secret or (b) the story isn’t very interesting and that’s why the trailers suck.

  12. Just-Signature-3713 on

I’ve barely seen any media for it it’s release and honestly it looks lame from the limited trailers I’ve seen

  13. FlimsyConclusion on

Its about 3 years too late.

It needed to come out a year or so after season 2 when it was at its peak hype.

Season 3, and Jon Favreau’s comment saying they have no real ending in mind made me lose interest in this IP.

  14. It’s a movie that you need to have watched all seasons of clone wars, all seasons of rebels, three seasons of Mandalorian, one season of the book of Boba Fett, and various other shorts to understand half of the references… Of course they should be concerned

  15. Still-Individual5793 on

I saw the trailer before a movie I went to see and I thought it looked kind of fun. But then I realized I never watched the third season of Mandalorian because it required that I watch the Book of Boba Fett which I never got through because it’s boring. So I realized that seeing this movie would just involve too much homework.

It’s the exact reason why I didn’t see Fantastic Four last year, even though it looked okay. These media franchises are just requiring WAY too much buy-in for people who are only kind of invested to keep showing up.

  16. I’m not a Star Wars hater, but I didn’t really watch the show and have generally not enjoyed the trailers, which make it seem like ultra generic CGI Marvel-slop. I don’t feel any pull to go to see this and I’ve seen every mainline Star Wars film in theaters.

  17. Foxwasahero on

Why? A tv show about a badass warrior and his literal bouncing sockpuppet sidekick couldnt possibly fail now that we’d have to spent $40 to see one episode.

  18. jennyskywalker on

I hear you, but as I am personally a fan of the show I’m stoked for it. And I feel like the draw of the adorableness of Grogu will be enough for many. People are simple like that lol. But yea i actually am very anti- new era Star Wars spinoffs in general, it’s so watered down now and the quality of some are just tarnishing the legacy . I just was actually impressed by the Mandalorian series and feel like it’s a worthy addition and if the movie is anything like the tv show it should do well!

  19. I pay for Disney+ … I’m just gonna wait for the movie to be on there. Why would I pay extra?

  20. ArchdruidHalsin on

Duh. The entire thing has just been meaningless slop to perpetuate the IP. All of it is plausible in-universe and yet I have no reason to care. It’s Glupp Shitto: The Movie. The franchise now exists to link wookipedia pages together.

Andor^(andTheLastJedi–pleasedon’tshoot) are the only entries to this franchise since Disney took over that have *any* any real point of view.

  21. CausticAvenger on

I have very little interest in this movie, but I’m very curious how it does at the box office. I see a lot of excitement for it on social media but that doesn’t mean anything. It’ll either be a huge hit that brings in families and kids, or its connection to a declining TV show will Solo it.

  22. Pointless release. But they are desperate to get Star Wars back into the good graces of people after Rise of Skywalker

  23. I really did not enjoy season 3 so I’m in no rush to go see the theatrical endeavours of characters i no longer really care for (and potential hot take? I never liked Grogu, ever.)

  24. WickerMan22 on

To spend that kind of money to not show an actual trailer is shocking.

I’ll also die on the hill that December/Christmas is a better time to release a Star Wars movie.

  25. Dafoes_teeth on

Why would anyone see this in theaters if it’s gonna be on Disney+ 2 weeks after release?

  26. Short_Elevator_7024 on

This will be the first time I haven’t seen a new release star wars movie in the theater

  27. MrONegative on

Really think about it. It was a major hit TV show that started pre-pandemic. Had a great second season 6 years ago. Between Boba and S3, it’s been downhill ever since.

There hasn’t been a Star Wars movie in 7 years and the last one was awful. Why would people go from Disney+ to the movies to watch something not as good as the show they can watch right now?

And the show was film quality, so you can’t wow people with visuals. What’s the hook? Where do you win? What’s in here that you can’t get from rewatching the show or waiting for streaming?

  28. Malkovtheclown on

I have zero hype for that movie. It looks like a longer version of an episode I’ll have to pay 20 bucks just to watch

  29. ChaseThoseDreams on

They waited way too long to release it. Also, I think the series lost what made it special. The first season was excellent because a lot of it were strung together adventures of a bounty hunter, and now he’s kind of backseat to Bo Katan and rebel plots.

  30. I never watched the 3rd season and I don’t care enough to do so. Because of that I don’t care enough to watch the movie

  31. undermind84 on

This movie is going to bomb so hard. I can see it making less than 100 million domestic box office.

The trailers look lame, the poster looks lame and the name of the movie is lame. People who are not caught up with the lore are going to have zero interest in going to this movie. It will do well on D+.

Honestly, this should have been a straight to streaming movie to wrap up the series.

  32. Muffled_Incinerator on

I mean, this was a really dumb idea in the first place, taking a show that they essentially gave away for free back when streaming was cheap, and trying to force it into a theatrical release makes NO sense, especially since they allowed SO much time to pass between the last season. Given the highly episodic nature of the show, throwing Grogu & Mando onto the big screen is idiotic, and shows no understanding of the characters or their place within the larger SW universe. People showed up for the prequels in the theaters, because they knew they were getting SPACE OPERA on a grand scale, not getting a story of the week with a cute little baby Yoda. Even if they drag Thrawn etc in, which it doesn’t look they are, except maybe as a cameo lure for the next film, this isn’t going to move the needle, and it certainly is NOT going to make a billion dollars, which they’re going to need since it cost $165 to make, figure $300 million all-in w/ P&A

  33. Tryingnottomessup on

There is ZERO chance of me seeing this movie. These guys have been played about as far as you can take them.

What I really wish is they would do something about the sith – I would love to see some kind of origin story of Darth Sidious. I think they have books already written about Darth Sidious and Darth Plagueis, this might be a bit dark for disney, but I think people would go see this if it was done right.

  34. The name of the movie alone killed it. If it was just a Star Wars movie which happened to be a continuation of the show, general audiences might still flock to it. The name makes it sound like fan service for a TV show.

  35. abassassasssin on

Why would i be interested in a filler movie that was meant to be a tv season that doesnt really move the overarching plot of star wars forward in any meaningful way

  36. Now they are concerned? The entire idea that a declining streaming show would somehow make a good movie after being ruined in its 3rd season is preposterous. This shouldn’t exist as a movie at all. At best it should be a streaming movie, but I would still just ask why?

I don’t think most Star Wars fans care that much about the Mandalorian or Grogu anymore. Disney Execs have no clue about the Star Wars fandom.

  37. It’ll be tricky to balance the script toward the audience. They’ll be eyeing the toy money, grogu is an obvious attractant of the youngest demographic but they’ll need to balance with the grittier elements and pacing you need on a big screen space western. I can’t think of a recent comparable project. It’s a bit like the problems something like Ghostbusters II had after the cartoon lowered the audience age.

  38. eggflip1020 on

I would be as well. It’s a de facto, abbreviated 4th season of a Disney+ streaming show that looks like a cartoon because it’s shot on a Volume Sound Stage. I am ALL ABOUT theatrical releases but I honestly don’t know who this is for.

  39. It was screwed the moment they scrapped a season to make a movie out of it.

  40. No way I’m paying more out of pocket to see the finale of a show that is on a streaming service I already pay for. Disney is really trying to screw everyone every chance they get. Beyond greedy.

  41. CountFunkenstein on

Honestly I’d be more excited if they transferred the format to clone wars style animation and just gave me more content. The kid ain’t that cute and 3 years of waiting for what feels like a phoned-in story now is just tiring.

  42. OilMeUpStewart on

They should be it’s gonna flop. Star Wars isn’t what it used to be.

  43. Chimmychimm on

    Well yeah

I view Mandalorian as a TV show. Im not gonna spend $20 on it.

Also, Disney lost me as a Star Wars fan with the sequel trilogy. I only watch shows or movies by them with amazing reviews
