You’d need to scan your face or show a government ID just to use Signal or WhatsApp. Better than scanning your messages, sure, but still a massive privacy concern.
And the „temporary“ ePrivacy derogation keeps getting extended. Nothing is more permanent than a temporary EU measure.

Can someone remind me why did this all start? What triggered the EU in this direction? What’s their goal?

We need to keep the pressure, we can’t allow that the Parliament and Council permit mass scanning so keep sending emails and calling them if you can
