Given that the police in many countries hardly ever does anything against shoplifters, the numbers in Japan seem shocking only at first. I bet London or NYC would have much higher numbers if the police would do something, which they usually don’t. Good for Japan to go after shoplifters too.

Yeah unlike the delusion shoplifting is NOT rare asf in Japan. The students also did thr same thing when they were visiting Bali. I remember even the Japanese national swimmer stole camera of journalists in China or Korea during the Asian games . Can’t remember the place exactly.
