If you’re not following the Asif Aziz saga through London Centric I strongly recommend it, they’ve done excellent work. Turns out that a strangely high amount of those “American Candy” or Harry Potter knockoff merch places just happen to be renting properties owned by him.
This is a really wild story, as is everything involving Aziz, but also it’s good that there’s outlets out there reporting on this stuff with sufficient weight to pressure him into stopping. This scummy behaviour is ridiculous, and had it not been for this kind of reporting there would soon be hundreds of Londoners out on the streets for no reason (except the landlord wanting to turn the property into temporary accommodation for the councils, for more money), ahead of the Renters Rights Act coming into force.

Seems like a relatively straightforward thing to take aim at, ensuring long term occupancy buildings can’t be exclusively owned by a single landlord.

If we had more homes, we wouldn’t have people looking at spreadsheets deciding that it would be smart to kick out the tenants for temporary accommodation.

Planning on signing up for London Centric’s annual subscription as soon as I can afford it. Jim Waterson does incredible work

This is the billionaire lauded in the Muslim community for empowering the future generation of British Muslims. I know some of the members of his foundation. Not surprised by this given the type of people he attracts and supports.
