      Imagine living in North Korea and thinking “wow that other place is *much* worse”.

      It’s not that simple for divorce, though. If you get divorced, both parties are sentenced to one year of hard labor. They used to only sentence the one divorcing their spouse, but too many men were initiating the divorce so their wives wouldn’t be forced to go to the labor camps when it was the wives who were pushing for the divorce, so they started sending both husband and wife to stop that. Men are usually just beaten, starved, and mistreated. Women are routinely sexually abused. They’re either forced into it in exchange for food and water or just outright raped. This means that parents are choosing to be beaten, starved and raped, so their children don’t have to die in Russia. Let’s make sure *that* part of this isn’t glossed over with a „fake divorce“ headline.

      If the options are get sent to Ukraine to be cannon fodder or have your parents sent to a camp after divorcing to be beaten and/or raped, trying to escape DPRK altogether seems like a less risky option for the family unit..

      Why don’t they just send the parents to concentration camp and send their son to Russia? Are they stupid?

      I’d like to point out dailynk is funded by the NED, which is a CIA cutout, and therefore pretty much anything they say is going to be total bullshit.
