That’s good news, looks like it’s been handed over to a firm based in Denmark…good thing the US relations with them are all smooth and whatnot.

They didn’t just cancel it, the contract was deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court and the Hong Kong operator was found in breach of the contract during renewal.

I’m willing to bet China is banking more on the northern trade routes opening up starting this year than on Panama long-term. They’ve been sending more and more container ships north, and if there is indeed a Blue Ocean Event (sea ice melting fully) it’s going to open up a bunch of interesting options for Russia / China since they’re so close.
