PARIS, Feb 23 (Reuters) – The U.S. ambassador to France, Charles Kushner, has been banned from meeting members of the French government after not showing up at the Foreign Affairs ministry earlier in the day, where he had been summoned over comments on the killing of a French far-right activist last week, diplomatic sources said on Monday.

„Following the publication by the U.S. Embassy of comments on a tragedy that occurred in France and concerns only our national public debate – which we refuse to allow to be exploited – ambassador Charles Kushner was summoned today to the ministry. He did not show up,“ the source added.

French far-right activist Quentin Deranque was beaten to death in a fight with alleged hard-left activists, in an incident that shocked the nation and has been called „France’s Charlie Kirk moment“, referring to last year’s shooting of the U.S. conservative activist.

The U.S. Embassy in France and the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Counterterrorism said they were monitoring the case, warning on X that „violent radical leftism was on the rise“ and should be treated as a public safety threat.
„Faced with this apparent misunderstanding of the basic expectations of an ambassador who has the honour of representing his country, the minister requested that he no longer be allowed direct access to members of the French government,“ the source added.

This was the second time Kushner did not show after being summoned. In August 2025, he had been asked to explain himself at the French Foreign Affairs ministry after having publicly raised his concern about the rise in anti-Semitic acts in France and criticising the French authorities for not doing enough against it.

Charles Kushner is the father of Jared Kushner. Jared Kushner is Trump’s son-in-law.

Looks like he was banned for failing to fulfill his duties and show up when France requested.

Charles Kushner has an interesting CV.  Back in the day this was considered a serious scandal. Nowadays it’s qualifications to be an ambassador for Trump:

    >In 2005, following an investigation by United States attorney for the District of New Jersey Chris Christie negotiated a plea agreement with him, under which Kushner pleaded guilty to 18 counts of illegal campaign contributions, tax evasion, and witness tampering. The witness tampering charge arose from Kushner’s retaliation against William Schulder, his sister Esther’s husband, who was cooperating with federal investigators against Kushner. Kushner hired a prostitute to seduce his brother-in-law, arranging to record a sexual encounter between the two and send the tape to his sister. He was sentenced to two years in prison and served 14 months at Federal Prison Camp, Montgomery, in Alabama before being sent to a halfway house in Newark, New Jersey, to complete his sentence. He was released from prison on August 25, 2006.

    >As a convicted felon, Charles Kushner was also disbarred and prohibited from practicing law in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.  Republican Chris Christie, who chaired Trump’s first transition team, said Kushner committed „one of the most loathsome, disgusting crimes“ he prosecuted.

Good, France is finally tackling Trumpism and sending the message that there are certain standards of conduct that need to be met.

I hope more countries follow suit.

  5. Wish we Canadians would do something about Hoekstra. He’s done nothing but insult is to our faces since taking the ambassador job in Ottawa. Trashes us at every opportunity then asks why we don’t kiss his ass… Summon him then kick him out.

Trump doesn’t give a fuck about diplomacy, he just wants his goons to constantly piss off other countries and undermine their domestic policies

Ah the US, sending their ~~best and brightest~~ worst and dullest to represent them globally.

I’m sure Charles Kushner has never bothered to learn what the actual job of an ambassador is, given that he has the job only because he is Ivanka’s farther-in-law.

  8. The Kushner family is a real piece of work. Bunch of complete shitbags just like the Trump family. They should all be in prison.

  9. Grifter hires grifter then pawns him off to grift other countries….No Thanks!

  10. Who the F*** send an ambassador that repeatedly does not answer summons from the government of the country they’re sent to talk with ? What is he here for then? posting crap on social medias about that country? He can do that from the US, doesn’t need to be in another country for that.

It’s like a doctor appointed in a hospital that would repeatedly refuse to see any patient just ‚cause they don’t feel like it, what’s the point then???

  11. Mind you – not that we want him back in the US. Does France have a way to deal with „these sort of people“. The „faux vieux riche“ – aka nouveau riche.

Charles Kushner is a piece of work. Not only is he a convicted felon, but the crime that put him into prison was pretty disgusting.

Trump has embarrassed the diplomatic community by appointing wholly unqualified and unsuitable ambassadors to many countries. These countries need to send them home.

  14. It’s good to know that „showing up for work“ isn’t a requirement to be a US ambassador.

Trump hires incompetent family members who fail at their jobs.

This used to be called nepotism.

  16. “He called out the problem we’re ignoring and refused to show up for the retaliatory ear beating we lined up to punish him for that, so now we’re taking our ball and going home.” Your downvotes are just proof that I’m right 😘

Even the ambassador got hit with the ‘“you’re not on the list’ treatment.“.
