      It did add to last year’s GDP. Investment, i.e. Business Spending, is a major component of GDP. And the tech companies spent a shit ton of money on AI and AI centric equipment last year.

      Weird given the massive amount of spending on commercial infrastructure including power generation, hardware and fiber.

      One article says $650Bn spent and the next says nothing added to the GDP. Comedy hour.

      What AI hopes to develop most is married to consumer hardware. Any gains with development will be offset in hardware delays caused by inavailability of memory that many consumer products need.

      People just now figuring out that either AGI fails and the bubble pops or AGI succeeds and we have 50% unemployment. I am STILL waiting for someone to explain how AI is beneficial for humanity. It’s been years and shouldn’t be hard to explain… still waiting.

      That’s because they aren’t in it for economic growth. Tech companies are falling in line with the government’s wet dream of mass surveillance. And AI goes hand in hand with that

      But guys they’re laying off people and offshoring (cost saving) while investing in AI (burning resources) that hasn’t been profitable yet. It will be worth it eventually, right guys? It will trickle down, right?

      Of course it did not grow the economy. Unlike other advancements in technology it has not created large new areas of product that had yet to exist. Instead it primarily moves corporate software R&D expense from payroll to accounts payable. While also decreasing the value of the IP that corporation funded.

      Same goes with my two year old. In fact my two year old cost me money with nothing in return. Did you guys know you have to feed children? And clothe them too! I’m just glad my financial future and retirement is not based solely on my 2 year old taking over the entire global economy and making about 20% of all current jobs obsolete.

      Both can be true at the same time:

      – huge capex now (data centers, chips, power)

      – weak measurable productivity gains in the short term

      Infra spend shows up immediately. Broad productivity gains usually lag by years, especially when orgs are still in “pilot mode.”

      one article says it replaces all the jobs, all people. one says 80 billion jobs lost to AI. And this article which is like AI hasn’t done shit. the economy is shit and they are blaming mass layoffs on AI replacements. they get cover and free advertising for AI. we aren’t falling for it.

      Well, at least the story isn’t about how AI replaced millions of actual people. It seems the stories about one AI agent replacing 100 programmers might have been overblown.
