Same reason the NDP member bolted. Opportunity for power. Nothing more than that. Pretty selfish at the end of the day.

The real question is „would you choose to accomplish nothing and represent PP for years or would you change teams if it meant you have a chance to get your constituents some meaningful representation?“

    3. It’s pretty clear if you’re a moderate, Pierre has chosen to buckle down the hatches with the base and wait it out until Canadians are tried of Carney, because surely they wouldn’t vote in a 4th or 5th (can’t even keep track) liberal term. Pierre is not changing because he is smart enough to know you’re not going to win the economic argument against a bank governor who ran 2 G7 countries central banks. It’s just not happening. The more you talk about the economy, the more you fight on Carney’s turf. It’s just a bad move; stick to repeating the word affordability and crime, that’s better in all likelihood.

So the next best thing is to energize the base and hold on against the political storms and just wait it out.

      Will it work or not?

It might or might not, but if you’re a moderate, you have better things to do and it’s entirely possible Pierre’s approach might be great for him given his situation but not the best for you or your constituents.
